BTW, I just received my new guy, Ranger, that I was talking about in that other thread. He's getting along great with my other cat, so all is good so far! Bless you, czy! (OP) User ID: 816754 United States 11/29/2009 10:49 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, we weathered the first night! The dogs were very intested in who was in the cage...this will take some work. I've named my kitten 'Fiila', (feela) from a character who is half human-half cat, in a fantasy story I have been writing for years. She does not like to be picked up and held, but she loves to play. I don't think she was cared for very well, wherever she was before---real stand-offish. Probably young children with no supervision. No problem, though, I've dealt with feline emotional issues before. She looks like she has a lot of Abyssinian in her, a breed I am fond of...I can't wait to get a good picture of her, she really is a looker. The grey kitty has been named 'Jasper' by my doting 14 year old niece. That kitten is going to be spoiled rotten. Both kittens will be playmates next door once everything settles down. When the two are adult they will have the run of the property and the fields surrounding, tall trees to climb, lots of gophers and mice to catch...it is cat heaven. I have forgotten just how much fun a kitten is! I will have to construct my cardboard box kitty kastle, with hidden rooms, windows to poke paws out, and all sorts of stuff inside to play with. Anonymous Coward User ID: 829729 United States 11/29/2009 10:52 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yes, it is your fault. After reading about your experience with getting a new cat, I was talking to my family members who wanted very much to get a new cat for the family. Quoting: czygynySo, this little fur ball was looking for a home...and home he came! He is about seven weeks old. :kitty0000: Not only that, but while we were at the pet shop taking back a pair of rats that my oldest child left when he moved out, the owner says, “Hey, you want a kitten? We just found this one out in the parking lot of the shopping center”. He pulls out this beautiful torbie kitten with orange eyes, her expression of fear mixed with street-smarts indignation was priceless. I said “no, we just brought home a kitten”, but the family pressured me to bring her home, too...so now she is with us. She is about 11 weeks old. (Torbies are tabbies with tortoise-shell colors.) Unfortunately my two dogs are not cat friendly, but the little grey kitty is next door with the kids and grandmom, and I have the petshop kitten in a large cage in my house to protect the kitten until the dogs can be trained to behave. (which I have done with dogs before, and they have become treasured friends-just takes a lot of patience and caution) So, Pud, it's YOUR fault I now have a house-full of kitties! I'm having a blast. And, I'll post a picture of the torbie as soon as she tames down...she is a bit wild. Tell the dogs that the new members of your family are THEIR kitties, give them treats as you do this. I did this once with an older cat who was seriously pissed when I brought home a new kitten. She loved the kitten and just refused to talk to ME for a month!! ( no kidding) Also, be sure to hold the kitten yourself and keep BELOW the dogs so they understand that THEY are still in charge. |

I don't have quite the command with my dogs like Cesar Millan has with his, but we'll see this through. I had an Australian Cattle Dog that had superb hunting instincts. I brought home a little black kitten and the dog would sit at my feet shaking and slobbering with wanton desire for a small kitty snack. After working with him for about a week, he and that little kitten became the best of friends and they played all over the house! Here is my parking lot kitty Fiila: :fiila09: She sees one of the dogs outside at the glass door. Since my dogs are Rotts, they look very intimidating! Pretty, isn't she? Kletos, Eklektos & Pistos |

(OP) User ID: 418932 United States 12/01/2009 10:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | i'm kookoo for kitties... Quoting: SofiaMe too, Sofia! I haven't had any kittens in more than ten years, and now we have two! Fiila, the striped one, is very shy, and it has taken a few days for her to warm up to me...but I received my first nose kiss only last night, and allowed me to pet her today, what a purrer! (kitty lovers will know what a nose kiss is) Jasper, the grey one, is very loving and friendly, but then he has never known a minute of fear or abandonment, he has come straight from mommy to a house full of loving people. They tear through my mother's house all day long, playing and jumping all over. Fiila comes back over to my house and spends the night in the ferret cage as I train my dogs to accept her, no kitty snack! Last Edited by czygyny on 12/01/2009 10:10 PM Kletos, Eklektos & Pistos |

If the dog stops, the cat will chase him for more. My 80 lb Siberian Husky loves his kitties. He has a barking and chasing game he plays at dinner with them that is priceless. He has webbed feet and a flap of skin that rins from his elbows to his waist (think flying squirrel). He adopted me by hopping into my truck at a fast food place and looked at me like "ok, lets go home". He play's fetch, buries his toys and actually "barks" when the door bell rings. A true "CatDog".
