Remember the three rules for interpreting the Bible or any text: context, context and context. Let's look at this verse in a slightly larger context: "Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces" (Matthew 7:6).

Here we have dogs, pearls, swine and someone being ripped to pieces. What's going on here?

The big clue is the first part of the verse, "Do not give what is holy to the dogs." Something holy is forbidden for dogs. I know this will be hard for dog lovers to believe, but at the time Jesus spoke these words, dogs were not man's best friend. They usually traveled in packs and were very dangerous.

To call someone a "dog" in the first century was the lowest insult. As they say in Texas, "Them is fightin' words."

The only thing worse than being called a "dog" was to be called a "pig." It's still very effective today. Under the dietary laws given by God for Israel, the pig was a forbidden, unclean animal. It was common for first-century Jews to refer to gentiles as swine because they considered them unclean.

One thing is sure. Jesus didn't try to appease scoffers. He purposely offended them.

Let's look to Jennifer, 10, for more light on what Jesus meant: "Jesus said don't give your pearls to a pig because a pig is too dumb to understand what a pearl is worth."

Spiritual dumbness has nothing to do with one's IQ. You can be a certified genius yet be dumb as a rock in spiritual matters.

But the warning here involves more than spiritual dumbness as in pigs trampling underfoot valuable pearls. There's a parallel thought at the end of the verse that refers back to the dogs.

What is this holy thing that causes dogs to turn on you and tear you to pieces? For the answer, we turn to Sarah, 12: "Don't try to give the gospel to people who have already rejected it."

Not sure why I'm still trying, but can you hardcore christian dudes conceive of any reason to bother walking with God other than fear? Other than a possible fate of endless torture? Why do you, PB, keep assuming that any person who doesn't believe in hell is automatically some kind of unbridled evildoer with no conscience or decency?

I don't think you guys understand how love works. I don't think you guys understand growth and sonship and liberty in Christ. And I really don't think you realize we're each judged according to the slope against which we judge others.

See, God is Good. Non-church people who believe in some kind of God know that he's not a monster. He's Good. His goodness is what leads us to repentance - not his judgment, or wrath, or any of that stuff you get off on. This ex-hardass christer somehow snapped out of it and finally saw the light to realize that He's not actually the deformed anti-father I had been promoting all that time.

You guys have waded so deep into the quicksand of poisoned religion that I wonder whether you can even recognize the Redeemer anymore. It's disturbing. But if I was freed from this very same blind idolatry, there's hope for anyone.

Somehow we create our own hells in between lives. (Some of us.) I believe these hells are temporary.
I suppose it is possible that the creator of the Universe, G-d the Allmighty creates hells but somehow i don't believe that. I do believe that liars and false prophets and manipulators of persons do then punish themselves by sending themselves to some sort of hell between lifetimes, for an indeterminate amount of time.

When going down the path that there is no hell, while you fail to see what is next, I do.

Hell proves that God will deal Justice for the wrongs done in this life, that people who do wrong will not be allowed to get away with the pain that they have done.
We all are an evildoer, but if we accept the gift that Christ provides and we understand what being "Born-again" really means, then you also understand that people only do the things they do because of our sinful nature. If you are a doctor and you really care about helping people then you tell them to take care of themselves to prevent having to go to the doctor in the first place. But once sick you treat the illness not just the symptoms.




What you are missing in the Judge lest you be judged part is, If you point out something that someone is doing wrong then you yourself will come under scrutiny and therefore you had better have your own problems under control or you will be the one that is in the hot seat.

No where does it say DON'T JUDGE PERIOD, but with out the Holy Spirit able to discern all things then the safest thing for those to do is to not judge and prevent themselves from coming under the same judgment themselves.



A parent that disciplines their children loves their children, to teach them right from wrong by what you are saying makes them a monster.

If that is how you see God as a Monster, then you really need look around you and see what the product of not allowing people to pray in school, preventing teachers from spanking their students.

All the loving teachers in the world can't love them enough to prevent them from bring guns to school and shooting fellow students, Perhaps had those students had parents that disciplined them they might have learned that they were not GOD, and would have thought twice about the choices they were making.

What do these 3 bible verses have in common?
