POLL: TV Watching Habits
I Do Not Own A TV
I Own A TV But Never Watch It (less than an hour a week)
 I Watch 1-4 Hours a Week
 I Watch 1-4 Hours a Day
I Watch More than 4 Hours a Day
 I Only watch before Bed

Alright...it's time for the "Official TV Thread." Please, if you don't mind, take the poll...and feel free to discuss.

I am curious about viewing habits, and discussions about TV in general.

You all know where I stand. I don't even own a TV...I believe its sole purpose is to shape society, through brainwashing and hypnosis.

Re: Official TV Thread
Personally, I would love to get rid of the TV's in my home. My family has other ideas though and I am outnumbered.

My husband sleeps with it on all night long. Because of this he has to sleep in another room.

I notice when I do go to watch something, everything is a rerun or so stupid it is not worth watching. I won't even go to the "local" channels, and forget the news channels, after 2 minutes I can't change the channel fast enough.

The dumbing down of the entire Earth's population is working well for those wanting total control. All you have to do is look at a tv guide and see that it is true!!
The truth has never relied upon your belief in it to be true or not.

I AM my own religion!!

I watch very little TV

Mostly the big 3 cable movie channels and History Int'l. IMO, everything else is mindless crap.

Oh, and it was recently revealed that Alaskans are paying 3 times as much, for fewer channels, than the rest of you are paying down in the states. I pay a little over $140 a month for channel after channel of mindless crap.

Re: Official TV Thread
1 to 4 hours a week.

I only get a few stations from my antenna...I lost my PBS stations after the digital change over.

Unfortunately I've become hooked on the 'Judge' shows, since I usually come in during the hottest time of day for lunch and to cool off. I do not watch it in the evenings at all.

What I have seen on those shows leads me to understand why this nation is going to hell.

Most of these people have illegitimate children by two or more mothers/fathers, most are living off of their parents or gov't handouts, most are drug and alcohol abusers and most are conniving, grasping morans with no hope of cure!

Utter doom and despair.

The only thing I watch that has any redemptive value, only because it is innocent and it makes me laugh, is 'Beverly Hillbillies'. The rest is garbage.

There's no box for me to check.
I keep one TV on 24-7 almost. Been doing it since 9-11.
I guess it's habit now.
The sound is off, but I can look over at see the news and read the crawler in case something has hit the fan, again.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 772454

I think this can go both ways. I think the internet can be just as bad or worse even, but I also think it can be better too. If your main purpose of the internet is "entertainment," than it's probably worse than TV.

At least on the internet, you have a choice of what you view. On the TV you don't...different channels don't mean choice. It's more of a choice of which propaganda channel you watch...either way you are being fed lies.

If you are a clueless person, the internet is probably worse than TV. But if you know what's going on in this world...you can use it for good. There is some real truth and good info out there...but you will never find it on TV or on Radio, as they are heavily regulated...the Web is not (yet).

I have the FTA sat but rarely even use it. It has the KU-band radio. It has a motor so can be pointed also at some Adventist channels on another sat. They have their own networks off the mainstream, because they're real and too hot for TV. They have good health and food shows besides Christian study. 3ABN and HopeTV. But mostly just read online and radio. I find the MSM to be fiction and lies on every channel.

Re: Official TV Thread
TOYTV, I love your posts, but you probably won't like my answer.

I actually watch a lot of it. I know it's mostly lies (news), but I watch it to see what 'they' are pushing on the people. I then go in the opposite direction,

For example, they are PUSHING really HARD the Swine Flu vaccine, which will be available in mid-October. If you watched a lot of TV, you would see just HOW MUCH they want you to take this vaccine.

I am NEVER taking it, due to their constant propaganda.

I also watch old movies which I love, few sporting events, and one hbo show which I find rather enlightening. Other than that, it's just lies all the time.

I can pick out their lies really well at this point, I KNOW just WHAT they have planned....and I go about doing the opposite.

What do you use to connect your TV? I'd love to keep on gaming
while sending a recent torrent to my TV. I have multiple
monitor plugs but I can't afford an extra monitor right

Those are super slanted though. The History channel is not bad, they finally dropped the Isn't War Glorious? theme. I used to hate that.

TLC and DC, used to be science based but not it's like scandalous reality tv lite. They all love end of the world shit...

I didn't think I was alone in watching more than 4 hours a
day. But right now I don't have cable, so I get podcasts of
my favorite TV news shows and torrent all the rest, unless
I can watch the whole episode on the networks web site like
you can on SyFy. Too bad they don't all do that or I wouldn't
have to torrent. I even put up with the same damned 20 second
commercial 6 or 7 times in one show. You'd think they would
at least offer a variety of commercials.

I love shows like Warehouse 13, Eureka, Monk, Psych, Royal
Pains, Rescue Me, The Closer, Raising the Bar, Leverage,
Hu$tle, the CSI's and all 3 Law and Order shows, Bones, House,
Nova, NovaScienceNow, Lock N Load, Battle 360, Red Dwarf,
Torchwood, Spooks (aka MI5), Most astronomy shows like The
Universe, Bizarre Foods, Good Eats, Down Home with the Neelys,
Dexter, the Stargate shows, Battlestar Galatica,

Hell, I think I could go on for quite a while with this.

It's escapist fun. Go ahead and damn me for it but I read
a lot of fiction too. I see no harm in entertaining myself
and I have a lot of time on my hands right now.

It's also useful to pay attention to what is being advertised in the commercials.

For example, if they are pushing meds for insomnia, you know "they" are spreading something (via aerosol spray, food additives, etc.) to cause insomnia. So you know you will be needing extra melatonin or other natural sleep aids.

Whatever they are pushing, do a search on the naturopathic cures for the advertised "problem", and be ready to combat it by natural means.

Re: Official TV Thread
I pitched out my TV in 2004, after the election...I realized what a fool I had been. And I was raised on the damn thing, hell, my Dad was a newscaster back in the 60s!

Anyway, I avoid as much of it as possible on the internet, too, just watch the news clips on topics of interest, which aren't many in my book. I focus on independent productions and amatuer documentaries that are usually pretty straight from the heart. I read a lot of fiction, too, because I am beginning to realize I'm learning more truth from those great fiction writers than I have from most of the textbooks I've had to read for my so called 'education'.
I do have one weakness, though, Northern Exposure, that show seemed to have a little soul...still plenty of programming woven in, but it does, at least, have a sense of dignified humor.
Once you see what reality is, you just have to laugh!

The girlfriend and I have a TV, with a DVD player.

We cut the cable feed off 6 years ago, and instead spend that money on DVDs of movies or TV shows we like (used whenever possible). This way, we have like 70 seasons of TV and over 300 movies.

Trust me, we're never bored, and NEVER watch commercials. It's very freeing!
