Why are the AC's allowed to post here on GLP? | |

I'm just wondering why AC's are allowed to post at all...let alone start threads. Quoting: TurnOffYourTVI was looking for a good community of real truth seekers. And while there are certainly good people who know a lot of truth and are honestly sharing information, the AC thing really detracts from the potential of GLP. There are some AC's that seem to be cool, but a vast majority of them are either shills, retarded, or just thread polluters. Why not at least make someone create an account to post like just about every other forum on the web? It would cut down on the completely retarded element and raise the quality of the info. I realise it wouldn't get rid of all the shills, but it would certainly help control the issue. Currently, you have to wade through a lot of nonsense to find real, good people with accurate information. Please forgive me, as I don't mean to offend. And I'm sure this question has asked many times prior, but because of this issue, I'm not sure I want to keep financially supporting GLP. I wish I wanted to, because there are some really good people here. But why make it so easy for douchbags to completely run a muck? Someone can just as easily create a fake account and do the same. Like someone mentioned above, each IP has a USERID number so the only difference is the username. I am sure if the moderators changed the anonymous coward title to something a little more offensive like Donkey-Show Pornstar or something like that more people would actually register - because who cares if you are a coward as long as you are anonymous. Personally, I like the AC can post here. If things go too far out off hand moderators tend to fix things up. |

I'm not naive enough to believe in total anonymity on the web but I like to think my ac status, coupled with a dynamic ip on my home computer and my iPhone which also constantly changes ip's makes me just a little more difficult to get a handle on. also logging on with the iPhone seems a pain. I'm mostly on this phone. being busy as most of us are I like to get on, read, post, and get off. besides there's a presumed perception of mystery surrounding us ac's -- some of us like that. maybe we don't wish to call a great deal of attention to ourselves. I personally prefer a low profile. glp wouldn't be glp without the ac's -- they're the first thing I noticed on here years ago, and yes I was taken aback that this anonymous coward dude could post so many times and respond to his own threads so quickly!! Could never do that with a registered user name as the 'upgrade' thing will bump the thread you're following to the main forum page. |

There were lots of free news groups and bbs, etc., etc., that allowed anonymous login or no login at all. Computers themselves were rare. They were only for universities, banks, big companies and government, etc. They did not use the internet for profit. There were a big stream of spirit through the internet communities: Freely Given, Freely Give, and Copyleft. And, the word "Hackers" meant a lot differently back then. Then things has become changed. Many came to earn a big money using the internet. And, now the internet is a part of everyone's daily life. Also, internet crimes have greatly increased, and now no one hooked up with the internet is safe from it. Whether good or bad thing, no one can be really anonymous either. Almost every site requires your login ID, which means your name, DOB, phone number, address, credit card number, etc, not to mention of servers' keeping all kinds of log files that contain every information about connections and loggers. Everytime you log on, you are being watched in one way or the other, being tracked and recorded. I don't feel as free as the good ol' days anymore that I'm really missing. One thing I got fond of GLP is that login is just your option. Second thing is I'm really lazy typing a few extra letters and numbers for every time login and I don't want to spend a few more brain cells just to remember one more ID and password. |
