Break - New HIV strain found in woman from Cameroon

In Yaounde, Cameroon, a news strain of the human immunodeficiency virus that causes AIDS was discovered in a 62-year old woman.
The virus, which was found to be quite similar with the simian virus -- discovered recently in gorillas and apes, is presumed to have mutated and undergone gorilla-human transmission.
Jean-Christophe Plantier, a medical researcher from the University of Rouen in France who led the research said that the occurrence of the new HIV strain will most likely set the stage "the emergence for new HIV variants, particularly in western central Africa,"
Plantier also disclosed that the patient was earlier diagnosed with HIV in 2004 that probably explains her receptiveness to the new strain, however, the patient mention that she hasn't had any contact to apes nor to bush meat.
Currently, the patient shows no sign of AIDS but still carries the virus and is closely monitored by the research team.
On the contrary, Plantier and his team were also concerned that the virus could have spread by now given it's rapid replication and adaptivity to human cells.
