5 firemen died. here in the states, a fireman is considered the most dangerous of all jobs. with them not so used to fires like we are here, i can imagine what they are trying to contend with over there.

Ten planes and helicopters have joined 500 people on the ground including firefighters and civil protection officials tackling the blaze.

You're probably right.

I was in a region near to the one where the fires are two years ago, and there were torrential rain storms.

The drainage system on the roads couldn't cope with it, the streets were filled up the the top of the kerb and over with rain water running like streams.

Re: Fires in Spain
well, this year the fires in Spain have been more dangerous because of the winds..because it burns every year..and flooding happens not only because of the poor drainage systems( the east coast and to the south) but also because the destruction of forests( in the north) whether deliberate or natural, topped with a changing climate..

 Quoting: Celtic (Keltic)

"Torrevieja is on the sunny east coast of Spain, called the Costa Blanca, roughly half-way between Alicante and Murcia. In fact, Torrevieja is about 30 minutes drive from Alicante airport or Murcia airport.

The map below, shows the location for Torrevieja, on the Costa Blanca, between Guardamar and San Pedro.
