And the trend is in fact that culture at large is becoming more and more accepting of homosexuals, not less, over the course of the last century. And that is a good thing.

They want to fight, and they will push society towards an attitude of intolerance towards silly things like basic social graces. ie it is not appropriate to neck in the middle of a family restaurant.
