The Art of making Colloidal Silver User ID: 81679411 United States 01/06/2022 09:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thread: -abc123 An essential part of my career in electronics design was instructing the engineers and technicians to manufacture, set up, and maintain the equipment I had designed. I didn't mind this as I had long ago accepted the principle that if you could not teach it, you didn't know it as well as you should. In 1985 the first laser pointer I could use for teaching became available. The first red laser pointers cheap enough were 670 nanometers in wavelength. Harder to make and more expensive were the 650-nanometer pointers. They were a lighter shade of red and more visible for a given amount of power. I could stand at the back of the room with the slides instead of running back and forth. It also was convenient in pointing out points of interest on the actual equipment, which was quite large. I was playing with one of my laser pointers one day while making a gallon of colloidal silver. I had finished with the batch, which was a nice yellow hue. I was surprised to see a strong, visible red line running through the colloidal silver. Thinking about this, I concluded that the same particles absorbing the blue part of the ambient light reflected the 650 nm energy, making it visible in the same way that it would on a white surface. I had been making my own colloidal for quite a while by this time. I had learned to make it more stable by simply limiting the amount of current with a simple resistor, making the process more repeatable, resulting in a more stable product. I still ran it at about ten milliamps as I wasn't going to sit there and wait for hours for it to turn yellow. The bright red line meant that there had to be some fairly large particles in the solution, larger than what I had imagined would be staying in suspension by Brownian motion. The common wisdom at the time was that if it wasn't yellow, it wasn't colloidal silver. It made sense that the larger particles, larger than one atom (in other words, an ion), did not start being generated until the ionic content, as measured by the conductivity of the solution, was at or near its highest value. This was when larger particles would start being generated as the ions would not have room to dissolve into the solution and would start crashing together, a process called agglomeration, forming ever larger particles. The problem was that these large particles would continue to collect more and more ions, steadily reducing the ionic content. That is why people making colloidal silver tried to use it as quickly as possible and tried various ways to minimize this effect. Some used brown glass bottles, some preferred blue, and so forth. The energy of sunlight through clear glass seems to accelerate the process. It was virtually impossible to achieve an ionic content of greater than five PPM for an extended time. I decided to start experimenting by limiting the current that I used for a given surface area of the silver anode. I ran the current way down on my setup with my five Canadian silver maple leafs and a 1-gallon jar. I started using a laser pointer to shine through the solution and was surprised that I could see the red laser beam in the water long before it turned yellow. The water was still absolutely clear, so I knew that large particles had not had enough time to form. Checking the ionic content told me it was near 20 PPM, which was higher than I had ever achieved before. I also noted that the surface of the silver maple leafs had not developed the hard-to-remove black coatings. This residue was something I used to remove with a wire brush and my Dremel tool after several batches. A nasty job but one that had to be done as the hard coating of silver oxide prevents the silver ions from leaving the surface of the silver. Stopping the process at this point and leaving it in my clear glass 1-gallon jar, I started measuring the electrical conductivity of the solution each day and was surprised to find the ionic strength did not drop. It stayed well over 10 PPM, whereas the best I could do with the old method was five PPM, which continued to drop even further. When I retired at the age of 62 (I could no longer handle the math required in switching power supplies), I decided to make 9999 silver wire available. I had already decided to invest the greater part of my retirement funds in precious metals in any case. I had to buy 2000 ounces to get a refinery to do this for me—one thousand ounces of 12gauge and 1000 ounces of 10gauge. I had no idea at the time if I would live long enough to sell this much wire. I reasoned that I felt a personal need for this and had faith that I was not alone. I also decided to supply high-quality laser pointers. Not the made-in-China junk. The switching power supplies I designed were made in Taiwan, and I had good contacts in their electronic industry. I managed to find a company that would work with me to create a line of laser pointers for professional use. I had no great expectations about this venture. It was, after all, simply something to occupy me in my retirement. You can only read so many books after all. To my surprise, within two years, my little business had grown to the point where it was just too much for me to keep up with the orders. My wife, Alvine, was the office manager of a small company. I managed to talk her into taking over the business. We chose the name Atlasnova and incorporated it. Alvine is the boss of Atlasnova. If you want to make sure that you get something done with Atlasnova, you are well-advised to talk to her, not me. If you're going to talk about making colloidal silver or laser pointers with absolutely no sales pressure, I am the person to talk with. I am enjoying all this as I am helping people, the sort of people who are willing to make an effort to help themselves. I was the first person in the United States to offer green laser pointers. These were the invention of my friends in Taiwan. I sold many of them until the Chinese started to copy the design and manufacture them using cheaper parts. You can't blame people for choosing the lowest-priced item. I often do this myself. The best thing about the Chinese green laser pointers is that they don't last very long. So the people that needed a green laser pointer would eventually find their way to us. That is still the case today, ten years later. When the sale of pointers eased off a bit, I paid more attention to the people who wanted to make colloidal silver. I had been supplying only the 49 silver wire, and if someone called me about how to use it, I would try to help them. Many of them suggested that I sell them a complete kit and not send them out chasing alligator clips and resistors and so forth. So I came up with what I called the "starter kit." This kit was designed to provide the parts and instructions that could get people started in their journey to making colloidal silver. It came with instructions showing how to make it. It also included a 650 nm laser pointer. A laser pointer enables them to stop the process while the particle size is still very small. The AtlasNova laser pointers all have a circuit that keeps the output power constant no matter the batteries' condition. That is not true of the cheaper laser pointers from China. If you're using something as a piece of test equipment, you have to make sure that it always functions in the right way. I joined a forum called "Gold is Money." This is a forum of generally responsible individuals, serious investors, and one of the sub-forums that was devoted to alternative health and colloidal silver. I started posting on this forum about what I have learned about making colloidal silver. I was greeted enthusiastically. I decided to make, with the help of their input, a 1 gallon per day colloidal silver generator. As these were people who could afford to spend money for the best in life, I designed a no-compromise generator. It would produce 1 gallon per day of colloidal silver of a strength over 20 PPM with very small particle size and a stability that would allow it to be stored in clear glass containers for an unlimited time. We are still selling this same unit some 20 years later. The cost for this unit is over $200 as it includes over 3 ounces of AtlasNova 49 silver wire. Many of these are used to provide colloidal silver for large families, and many others are used commercially. The more enterprising of the customers of these units secure a supply of bottles and labels and develop a local business which has one great advantage. A little-known fact is that colloidal silver does not travel well. Vibration causes the ions to collide and form larger particles until they drop out of the solution, becoming tiny black dots at the bottom of the bottle. I confirmed this with one of the 1st gallons I made with the 1 gallon per day generator. I shipped a friend in Florida 1 gallon that measured 22 ppm, asking him to ship it right back to me. UPS ground both ways. When I got it back, it measured only seven ppm. Even if the manufacturer used the proper method and took the required time to make it properly, it would still have to be shipped. So if people really can't handle making it themselves, they should buy it from a local source, if possible. |
