Scarecrow® Motion Activated Sprinkler

Keeps unwanted animals off the lawn & out of the garden

This motion activated sprinkler keeps nuisance animals out of the gardens and other landscaped areas humanely, safely and effectively. When it senses an intruder with its motion sensor, the SCARECROW instantly releases a short, but effective stream of water at full garden hose pressure. Requires 2 - 9 volt batteries and a water supply (garden hose). Scarecrow Scares:

Cats & Dogs
Deer
Rabbits
Raccoons
Large Birds

Coverage
Up to 1000 square feet can be covered by one Scarecrow. A 35 foot deep and 45 foot wide 100 degree sensor detection zone provides plenty of garden protection.

Big red hornet 2-3 inches long. No shit. And no shit going for the shotgun but he cut out. Never seen a hornet that big.

Betcha a fight between one of them and a tarantula would be something to see. They hunt them.

Omega,
Things are not always as they appear. The birds were likely after bugs on or around your plants.
Consider it a small price to pay for organic bug control, and the "price of admission" to the show you occasionally get to see.

There are a pair of roadrunners that have been around here for several years (I leave water out for them and other birds) I even know where their nest is located. They are cool and fun to watch.....

Problem is I caught them in my garden pecking at my squash. Ruined two of them. Big honkin' ones too....

Now shooting rats with tails (squirrels) is one thing however no way in hell I am gonna off a roadrunner.....

Sooooooo....anyone know what these guys prefer to eat??? I'll get some and put it around the perimeter of my garden and feed em' good......they'll be fat and happy and stay outta my garden, hopefully.....

Thanks in advance....

No time to read the whole thread...but in case no one else suggested, buy some of that metallized gift ribbon, it comes in a little package that looks like a tiny shiny beehive. It's about 1/8 inch wide, very very shiny. Put a bunch of it out where the breeze will blow it. Also in Iowa they hang those disposable aluminum pie pans from tree limbs and a scarecrow. Or get a cat, heh heh.

I'm surrounded by pie pans at KY. Those aren't so loud on a breeze. Pretty for snaps. Barely keeps out crows so probably not enough for bigger birds.

Fake orange snake wind catchers I think are more effective since birds respond to bright colors of snakes.

if you have any old CD's that aren't good for much other than playing frisbee with, set 'em up on notched sticks around the squash plants. you wanna make sure the disks will catch the sun. the random flashing should help keep the runners away. that or enclose yer plants in a chicken and hog wire contraption. if none of that works, there's this coyote that works for Acme....

I don't know what they like to eat (beep beep) but I do know that they absolutely HATE fox urine and so do squirrels. Never thought to try it on the GLP squirrels but maybe.....well, that should be a different thread??

So in the scent section of your favorite sporting goods store get a bottle of fox urine and something to hold the smell (a rag, something pourous) and put it around your garden. They'll stay out.

Good luck.
