Roadrunners in my garden
There are a pair of roadrunners that have been around here for several years (I leave water out for them and other birds) I even know where their nest is located. They are cool and fun to watch.....

Problem is I caught them in my garden pecking at my squash. Ruined two of them. Big honkin' ones too....

Now shooting rats with tails (squirrels) is one thing however no way in hell I am gonna off a roadrunner.....

Sooooooo....anyone know what these guys prefer to eat??? I'll get some and put it around the perimeter of my garden and feed em' good......they'll be fat and happy and stay outta my garden, hopefully.....

Thanks in advance....

Scarecrow® Motion Activated Sprinkler

Keeps unwanted animals off the lawn & out of the garden

This motion activated sprinkler keeps nuisance animals out of the gardens and other landscaped areas humanely, safely and effectively. When it senses an intruder with its motion sensor, the SCARECROW instantly releases a short, but effective stream of water at full garden hose pressure. Requires 2 - 9 volt batteries and a water supply (garden hose). Scarecrow Scares:

Cats & Dogs
Deer
Rabbits
Raccoons
Large Birds

Coverage
Up to 1000 square feet can be covered by one Scarecrow. A 35 foot deep and 45 foot wide 100 degree sensor detection zone provides plenty of garden protection.

I thought they ate almost all protein. Lizards and rodents mostly. But they do eat a small amount of fruit and seed.

zucchini?? oh come on! that is so prolific you have enough to share. I mean, how much zucchini bread can you eat?

Plant a few extra plants around your garden since they obviously like it. And then fence them out of your garden

Garden is fenced they fly in there......

Yeah zucchini is prolific however in this Texas heat soon the sun will kill off those plants no matter how much you water them. It'll be damn near a hundred today, 10 degrees above normal

you will need some bird seed and a huge rock way up on a hill. Tie a string to a piece of wood to keep the rock from rolling down the hill. When the roadrunner starts eating pull the string and the rock will crush him. If that don't work you will need a giant rubber band,a spear and...

A roadrunner life does have its dangers. Roadrunners are occasionally preyed upon by hawks, house cats, raccoons, rat snakes, bullsnakes, skunks, and, coyotes eat nestlings and eggs. During the winter months, many succumb to freezing, icy weather.

That isn't so bad ... you still have your food!

I lived in Oregon once upon a time and we had a Mole or Gopher in our garden. Plants would just disappear down under the earth overnight. They loved artichoke. Now that was a problem, they didn't even leave me any scraps!

Road runners are cool birds! I was out in the yard, and one ran by me within 15 ft. with a lizard hanging out of each side of it's mouth. It didn't go any faster seeing me with a rake in hand, so I doubt a scarecrow would do the trick.

Where I am, we just feel that there is enough food for us and the birds.
