Survivor X (OP) User ID: 657385 Canada 05/24/2009 09:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You can hear damned near ANYTHING on the Net, and other places. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 679187WHAT you need to learn is to CHECK what you hear WITH a reputable source, to see if it's true, OR bullshit. Vitamin D3 is made in the skin when 7-dehydrocholesterol reacts with UVB ultraviolet light at wavelengths between 270–300 nm, with peak synthesis occurring between 295-297 nm.[12][13] These wavelengths are present in sunlight when the UV index is greater than 3. At this solar elevation, which occurs daily within the tropics, daily during the spring and summer seasons in temperate regions, and almost never within the arctic circles, adequate amounts of vitamin D3 can be made in the skin after only ten to fifteen minutes of sun exposure at least two times per week to the face, arms, hands, or back without sunscreen. With longer exposure to UVB rays, an equilibrium is achieved in the skin, and the vitamin simply degrades as fast as it is generated.[1] In humans, D3 is as effective as D2 in vitamin D hormone activity in circulation,[14] although others state that D3 is more effective than D2.[15] However, in some species, such as rats, vitamin D2 is more effective than D3.[16] Both vitamin D2 and D3 are used for human nutritional supplementation, and pharmaceutical forms include calcitriol (1alpha, 25-dihydroxycholecalciferol), doxercalciferol and calcipotriene.[17] Get tested. The person in this thread who lives in Florida got tested, and was still deficient. Before the tobacco manufacturers were forced to admit it, doctors were saying smoking is good for you. Remember? Even when they were in front of the grand jury, some doctors were still saying cigarette smoking is not harmful. People were dying of cancer by the millions. So today, they sell every known flu relief medicine and cold remedy, well those same paid stooges, will tell you anything, to make a buck. And they have a HUGE lobby group in Washington and all over the world, so no small lab or even government institution can fight their bs, when they get into every study. You need a grand jury and whistle blowers to get anywhere with these types of people. |
Survivor X (OP) User ID: 657385 Canada 05/24/2009 09:50 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You see here is the problem. Quoting: Survivor X 657385No one has a little monitoring device hooked up to them, to tell them what levels their vitamins are at. So in some cases beta-carotene can prevent cancer, and some cases it causes cancer. And that is because all these factors work together. If you take retinol as a supplement, and have a dinner rich in vitamin A, well you are way over the daily UL and re now blocking vitamin D absorption. But what is the daily UL upper limit for Vitamin A? 10,000 IU and some multi-vitamins have 10,000 IU. So anything you eat that day which has vitamin A puts you over the UL. In fact one serving of liver, can put you at double. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but unbiased studies are difficult to find and uncorrupted scientific studies are also difficult to find. What I am doing, is just doing my own research, one suppliment at a time. Started with zinc, then zinc vitamin c and echinachea, when I discovered zinc by itself does next to nothing, but as a catalyst it works wonders. If you have a really bad tooth ache, and tylenol with aspirin together will still not kill the pain, if you take them with zinc, the pain is gone, because it is a catalyst. So then I went onto selenium. And discovered how and when to take that, according to how it made me feel and how it fit in with the vitamin c and zinc. So then I went onto vitamin D, and fit that in, all the while maintaining a good diet, but dropping milk and as many milk products as possible from my diet. So that is how I am approaching it, one step at a time. I will still eat carrots, I just won't take a vitamin A supplement. But look at carrots, how much vitamin A you get from 1/2 cup of cooked carrots, and I eat them 3 or 4 times a week. 13,418 IU 270% of recommended daily value and you are already 3,418over the upper limit. So if you are taking a multi-vitamin look out osteoporosis, hip fracture, help I fell down and I can't get up. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 666261If you had, AND believe me, no matter HOW MUCH D3 you take, the body will NOT absorb it. Before most of your times here on Earth, there was on radio WOR from NY City a Dr. Carton Fredricks, who had a radio show five days a week, a proven track record on nutrition and vitamines and a LARGE following. My Mom was one. Because she had the radio on at lunch time to hear Dr Fredricks, I caught many of his shows. He sold/pushed NOTHING! THAT is where I first heard about there being FOUR D vitamines, and how D3 was the WRONG one chosen to be added to milk. I have NO idea which ones are in vitamine pills and combined with calcium tables, so I can't go there. Eagle PS thanks for the support, Turtles Know ! Wrong again, Eagle. No matter how many times you post it, milk still contains D2 (egrocaliferol) NOT D3. D3 is the absorbable form of D. I was at the grocery store yesterday and I saw they had 1,000 IU chocolate chewable Vitamin D, and I was going to buy some, even though I just bought the 1000 IU straight little white pills a couple days before. But I looked at the label, and it had another ingredient in it, that it said was for absorption. I looked at the label of the ones I bought and it had no other ingredient. So next time I will buy the chewable chocolate ones. |

Here I will show it to you. She is married now so I guess she can just be herself now... [link to img38.imageshack.us] She was saying "I own you Muhabean Man." That's my secret identity. The Muhabean Man, its a long story. lol During the gulf war, there was this guy in an Iraqi prison, who convinced his cell mates that he was the Mujadeen or something and they were just frantic, that the guards had to let him out to fulfill his destiny. And he was just sitting there in the cell, with that casual look on his face, yes it is I, the Mujadeen, and CNN got a kick out of the story. So then Mr. Bean of course had a bunch of images out there people had put out with him as Osama Beanladen And somehow in all of that I ended up as the Muhabean Man, the Itsack, he who comes forth from the kitchen with a sandwich and a beer. etc. |

Quoting: Eagle # 1 683420In the EARLY 1930s, when vitamines were first being recognized/discovered, it was found that vitamine D helped with a "disease" called rickets ( actually from lack of D ). They decided to force milk companies to add vitamine D to milk to stop 'rickets', or poor bone formation in children. HOWEVER, at the time they did NOT KNOW there were FOUR D vitamines, D1, D2, D3 and D4. By shere accident (?) they picked D3 to add to milk, and it is the ONLY D vitamine that humans CAN'T absorb into their bodies. It has NEVER BEEN CHANGED ! Ask you local dairy man like I did, where I have bought milk for 44 YEARS; he knows NOTHING about which D vitamine goes into his milk; ONLY that it does ! The 'Good Old Boys Science Group' just NEVER admits a MISTAKE OR, changes it when confronted ! Check it out. Prove me WRONG ! Eagle So... based on your logic, everybody should still be suffering from Rickets? |

TheGirl User ID: 684996 United States 05/25/2009 12:18 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We're having quite a debate at my house on whether Vitamin A really interferes with Vitamin D3 absorption. I've spent a fair amount of time researching on the internet and have only found one article supporting this - perhaps I'm not searching with the best phrase..... Can someone post a link to reliable source on the Vitamin A/Vitamin D interference? Thanks so much! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 657385Here you go... under Vitamin A "One small study of nine healthy individuals in Sweden found that the amount of vitamin A in one serving of liver may impair the ability of vitamin D to promote calcium absorption [43]. To further test the association between excess dietary intakes of vitamin A and increased risk for hip fractures, researchers in Sweden compared bone mineral density and retinol intake in approximately 250 women with a first hip fracture to 875 age-matched controls. They found that a dietary retinol intake greater than 1,500 mcg/day (more than twice the recommended intake for women) was associated with reduced bone mineral density and increased risk of hip fracture as compared to women who consumed less than 500 mcg/day [44]." Basically it goes on to say more studies are needed. Retinol interferes if you take twice the daily UL. Beta-carotene does not interfere, but beta-carotene is absolutely not recommended by the government as a supplement due to the increased risk of cancer.
