Well then the US government is very lucky that you're not an officer in their military. Resisting a "mob" which which is that large and that determined would result in a spectacular bloodbath like never seen on American soil since the Civil War. If we assume the crowd flees in cowardice, then at best you end up with the US becoming extremely destabilized, rioting in half of the major cities across America, and critical collapse of support for the US government, military and law enforcement.

If the soldiers manage to hold their ground, and that's a big if, then you'll have put the United States on a path which far surpasses what the police caused with Rodney King or what you saw in Italy a few months ago - which was over the death of one individual mind you.

You'll have not only lost containment of that single installation, but possibly of the entire country itself. But you go right ahead and order you're handful of soldiers to engage those thousands upon thousands of citizens which look just like every Americans brother, neighbor and best friend.

Losing one base for a short period of time is nothing compared to the hell you will have brought upon the government you serve, and the soldiers you serve with.
