Honestly, I'd wear a mask if I were in any of those places, flu or no flu. Well, maybe not in Texas but the others.
Then your concerns aren't any more legitimate than those of a hypochondriac. The probability of you contracting the ailment is remote and even if you did all you'd end up with is a mild flu not unlike what you've experienced many times in your life. Even in Mexico City - they have a population of 28 million or so and less a thousand have been infected there.
But the brain is just a biological computer - easily manipulated, easily programmed. The government and media knows that well, so I suppose it's not your fault.

I know of a couple people in my family that have it. Once you have it you don't get rid of it. Healthy, 25 year old guy caught it in the bathroom at his work and lost his thumb over it. Also, there are only about 2 cases of anthrax anually in the U.S., but someone else in family was once one of those two. This stuff that is supposed to be so hard to catch and like lightening strikes seems to strike too often for my comfort lately. The germs are fighting back. It's only going to get worse.
