you may be correct. i think the consensus of most posters is prudent preparations...ie, investing in supplies that would be bought anyway but compressing the timeframe.
I prepared for the y2k fiasco because it sounded plausible. the supplies purchased were consumed over the next year so the net cost of preparation was zero.
same scenario now but with a potential extra benefit of inflation protection. other than investing in a generator, there really wasn't any out of pocket cost then or now.
