Flu/Cold Prevention with Hydrogen Peroxide in Ears
My suggestions that I thought of:
I also swab my ears with hydrogen peroxide every day and frequently eat garlic
I hear that apple cider vinegar does wonders also.
Keep vinegar and hydrogen peroxide for cleaning and disinfecting in your household
I drink a cup of hot green tea every morning

05/27/2007: Toomba from Kuching , Malaysia writes: "Source: [link to www.purestcolloids.com] Cure for the common cold?

Just about everyone gets a common cold from time to time, though some folks never seem to get a cold. I used to be someone who got at least one cold every winter, sometime two or three throughout the winter and spring months.

Colds are now part of the past for me because I have learned how to become one who seems to never get a cold. What is described below is a very simple method that enables you to never get a cold again (NGACA). This was described to me many years ago by a physician who used it successfully for decades with his patients.

While this method is simplicity itself, it is very important to be alert to the signals your body is constantly sending you. If you pay attention to those signals it becomes clear that there are certain reliable and repeatable signals your body produces to signal the onset of a cold.

For most people the signal is a slight sore throat, scratchy throat causing a cough, runny nose or congested sinuses. These signals which will vary from one individual to another but will generally be recognized as the cold onset signal which precedes the actual cold by usually one day or so.

The onset signal is caused by the body's immune system attempting to counteract the virus and producing an inflammatory response.

The NGACA method is applied on the day the onset signal is recognized or as early as possible once the onset signal is recognized. If you wait until the cold sets in the following day, it will have to run its course and which usually lasts seven to ten days.

Here is what to do when you get the cold onset signal.

1. Get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide (3%) from your local pharmacy.

2. Tilt your head to one side and fill one ear canal with hydrogen peroxide using an eye dropper. Fill the ear canal completely. This assumes you do not have a ruptured ear drum!

3. Within one to two minutes you will notice bubbling in the ear. This indicates that the peroxide has found something that should not be there. Let the peroxide stay in the ear until it stops bubbling. If the bubbling has not stopped after five minutes, drain out the peroxide and refill the ear with fresh peroxide. When the bubbling has stopped, drain out the ear.

4. Repeat the procedure on the other ear.

That's all there is to it! It is important to perform this procedure at the earliest signal of cold onset. If this procedure is done in a timely fashion, the symptoms that signaled the cold onset will subside within a few hours and you will not come down with a cold.

As an added bonus, the hydrogen peroxide dissolves ear wax and will leave your ears free of wax and free of disease causing pathogens.

Why does this work? This method works because the rhinovirus which causes colds enters the body through the ear canals and the hydrogen peroxide kills the virus before your body gets infected.

In 1928 Richard Simmons, M.D. hypothesized that colds and flu virus enter through the ear canal. His findings were dismissed by the medical community. According to Dr. Simmons, contrary to what you may think or have been taught about how you catch the flu or the cold there is only one way that you can catch the two, and that's via the ear canal not through the eyes or nose or mouth as most have believed.

In 1938 German researchers had great success using hydrogen peroxide in dealing with colds and the flu. Their data has been ignored for over 60 years."

It's better to not insert anything in your ears. If you dilute the HO slightly from the 3 % and drip it in your ear, and sit like that for a while, it will do any cleaning you need. It's a bad idea to swab inside your ears. If you use Walter Last's recommendations about HO in your ears to combat viral infections, you should know he recommends dripping the stuff in.

I can attest to this. It works.

Have not had a cold since 12/10/2004.

Just an eyedropper, half full of peroxide, in each ear will do it.

YEP - THIS WORKS! I have been using this method on my kids for over a year.

At the VERY FIRST SIGN of illness, a runy nose, a sneeze, a sniffle, I put the H2O2 in their ears and they have NEVER gotten sick. It just stops it in its tracks - it NEVER progresses! I also do it at the first sign of fever.

I hardly ever get sick, but I had the opportunity to try it out on myself about 3 weeks ago. I got a little congested one morning, and by afternoon I was fully congested. I immediately did the H2O2 and did it again before bed, and once more then next morning. I never got sick. It didn't progress - no tickle in my throat, no soreness, no cough, nothing in my lungs, the congestion turned to clear-colored snot after 36 hours and then was gone.

Dr. Oz recommends this treatment for air wax, and it has been used successfully in Germany for so many years. This nurse either does not know what she is talking about, or this user is pretending to be a nurse. No ruptured air drums here at the hospital with this method in more than 20 years.

I went to nursing school (RN) and they never taught us about the absolute MIRACLE of hydrogen peroxide either!

I am living proof that peroxide WILL stop a cold or flu dead in its tracks!!! Only thing I would not recommend is putting it in your ears for more than 30 seconds or so. I once tried it for like 3-5 minutes in each ear and I had THE WORST earache of my life! It lasted about 24 hours. And on top of whatever illness I had it was very miserable!

That was one of the 1st times I'd ever tried peroxide so I didn't know you needed to use it at the very first symptoms of a cold/flu so the germs don't have the chance to take hold and multiply. Try it!!!

Re: Flu/Cold Prevention with Hydrogen Peroxide in Ears
Combine the peroxide in ears with gargling with peroxide! Most times all I do is gargle. If I feel like something really bad is coming on I will do both. I have only been sick once in the last 6 years (the 1 time was when I delayed peroxide til morning).

What I do is gargle with peroxide full strength, spit out, and gargle (rinse) with warm water. I do this sequence 3 times in a row. When you gargle with the warm water you are washing away the dead germs that the peroxide has killed!

Just try not to breathe in too hard after you spit because it will irritate your airways and lungs. Also, the peroxide will be sizzling and foaming in your throat so try not to inhale it when you breathe or if you need to cough.

Peroxide is also a great breath freshener as it kills bacteria in the mouth and throat! Google "hydrogen peroxide uses" and see everything that it's good for.

My brother is a Doctor of Otolaryngology. He says he agrees with this method. He said this, combine this along with caffeine and it's a great homeopathic trick to getting a grip on bacterial infections.

He said that caffeine is not only a pain reliever, but like all stimulants, it acts as a sinus decongestant. This includes eustachian tube congestion...allowing the tube to drain, keeps bacteria from sitting there and reproducing.

At the same time, my bro is a hard ass on subjects like this. He is HIGHLY skeptical of pseudoscience...but he agrees with this method of treatment.

How are you going to argue with a doctor who does nothing but slices and dices ears, nose and throat?

between the hydrogen peroxide in ears and a neti pot draining the sinus cavity with sinus salt, my colds are diminished. I can't say I never get one, but I do work in a public school kindergarten ;) Hate to think what it'd be like if I never used the holistic methods!

Re: Flu/Cold Prevention with Hydrogen Peroxide in Ears
I've heard that the occasional cold (along with PROPER REST, drinking plenty of fluids, eathing properly, etc.)can actually be good for you: helps strengthen your immune system in the long run (although it's down for a bit) and helps rid your body of the weaker cells...so sometimes it may be good to let a cold run it's course witout using hydrogen peroxide or those countless other drugs out there (But don't take my word for it; talk to your doctor about this!!) Having a cold while under stress could just make things worse, so please consider taking a bit of time off to rest and take care of yourself :) Obviously, be more careful during flu season, as having a cold can temporarily weaken your immune system and may make you more suceptible. Talk to your doctor about getting the flu shot to protect yourself AND others who could catch it from you. Know the differnce between the early warning signs of a cold and flu.

If you do have a cold, please TAKE THE NECESSARY PERCAUTIONS not to spread it (remember, viruses can live on surfaces for some time), especially to people who may have compromised immune systems. There are plenty of resources out there with tips on how to prevent spread of cold/flu. For example, you should wash your hands after blowing your nose, and consider turning the tap on with a CLEAN tissue, so you don't spread your germs onto the fauceht which people after you will touc. Turning taps off with a paper towel after is recommended so you don't pick up others' germs. There's a lot you can do, but obviously don't make yourself crazy doing it :P

**IMPORTANT** I also read that people with certain health conditions including Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis) and Asthma (colds can cause asthma attacks, especially in children) can be vulnerable to the common cold and it can worsen their condition, so take extra measures to prevent catching a cold if you have these or othe conditions (but I would suggest talking to your doctor before using hydrogen peroxide). Also, talk to your doctor to see if you have any medical conditions that will put you at higher risk for complicaions if you catch the common cold.

Please take extra percautions to prevent yourself from getting a cold/flu if you will be around a baby or an elderly person with a compromised immune system (but check with a doctor first if you are thinking about trying hydrogen peroxide for yourself, even just one time). Avoid being around them if you are sick and for a bit after (could still be contagious). Try to take extra care not to spread it to them, but sometimes spreading a cold is inevitable so don't stress!

I have severe asthma and I get sick every year with absolutely no medication helping. I mean ER worthy sick, I'd be taking asthma medication constantly.

But since I started thinking positive and getting fresh air, like riding my bike around for a mile, doing some basic yoga (I'm advanced at it, but basic is sufficient) and eating a vegetarian diet that is mostly fruit and veggies, I haven't gotten sick. It's literally a miracle. I do eat fresh garlic and I've been eating a small onion a day in my food. Oh and drink lots of coffee and water to flush out your system.
