Taps off for two million in water-starved Mexico City

A child walks close to a measuring pile at the lake reservoir, in Villa Vic...

Some two million residents of Mexico City on Thursday began 36 hours without water under an emergency plan over Easter vacation to respond to a record drop in water supply and to work on repairs.

The cuts, in the giant city of some 20 million that once sat on lakes, coincide with Semana Santa, Mexico's second most important holiday season when many leave the city.

Two million people without water? Gawd. Only 36 hours, supposedly, so they should be okay.

I've never understood why a beautiful country like Mexico which is rich in natural resources still is 3rd world.

My personal starting solution to the plight of 3rd world countries is getting the people access to clean water and indoor plumbing. Is that asking too damn much to put pipes in the ground?

Talk about evil leaders.

A bit of perspective for we Americans.

i was in mexico five years ago for easter, it was eye opening to say the least, talk about living on the wrong side of the tracks, hard to believe we are on the same continent
i was amazed at all the beautiful churches there, it seemed like every block had one, while extremely poor people loitered around , starving. if they want something bad enough, they seem to get it, i wish they could apply that to common welfare. i know crackheads that could support a $300 a day habit, because they were motivated to do so

sooner or later we are going to be over run with refugees from that country, not if but when, we should be dealing with that now, not later
