You can't even afford to protect your border of have health care. All your weopons are primative compared with "current capability". A300 and A400 radar is beyond the west as are russian missiles and cruise missiles. NATO has no defence from any of this stuff! Try doing some research instead of believing "those who know" sweet fa. Anonymous Coward User ID: 646602 Canada 03/31/2009 05:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | just found this on Drudge... Wasayo Quoting: WasayoReport: Chinese Develop Special "Kill Weapon" to Destroy U.S. Aircraft Carriers Advanced missile poses substantial new threat for U.S. Navy U. S. Naval Institute March 31, 2009 With tensions already rising due to the Chinese navy becoming more aggressive in asserting its territorial claims in the South China Sea, the U.S. Navy seems to have yet another reason to be deeply concerned. After years of conjecture, details have begun to emerge of a "kill weapon" developed by the Chinese to target and destroy U.S. aircraft carriers. First posted on a Chinese blog viewed as credible by military analysts and then translated by the naval affairs blog Information Dissemination, a recent report provides a description of an anti-ship ballistic missile (ASBM) that can strike carriers and other U.S. vessels at a range of 2000km. The range of the modified Dong Feng 21 missile is significant in that it covers the areas that are likely hot zones for future confrontations between U.S. and Chinese surface forces. The size of the missile enables it to carry a warhead big enough to inflict significant damage on a large vessel, providing the Chinese the capability of destroying a U.S. supercarrier in one strike. Because the missile employs a complex guidance system, low radar signature and a maneuverability that makes its flight path unpredictable, the odds that it can evade tracking systems to reach its target are increased. It is estimated that the missile can travel at mach 10 and reach its maximum range of 2000km in less than 12 minutes. Supporting the missile is a network of satellites, radar and unmanned aerial vehicles that can locate U.S. ships and then guide the weapon, enabling it to hit moving targets. The ASBM is said to be a modified DF-21. While the ASBM has been a topic of discussion within national defense circles for quite some time, the fact that information is now coming from Chinese sources indicates that the weapon system is operational. The Chinese rarely mention weapons projects unless they are well beyond the test stages. If operational as is believed, the system marks the first time a ballistic missile has been successfully developed to attack vessels at sea. Ships currently have no defense against a ballistic missile attack. Along with the Chinese naval build-up, U.S. Navy officials appear to view the development of the anti-ship ballistic missile as a tangible threat. After spending the last decade placing an emphasis on building a fleet that could operate in shallow waters near coastlines, the U.S. Navy seems to have quickly changed its strategy over the past several months to focus on improving the capabilities of its deep sea fleet and developing anti-ballistic defenses. As analyst Raymond Pritchett notes in a post on the U.S. Naval Institute blog: "The Navy's reaction is telling, because it essentially equals a radical change in direction based on information that has created a panic inside the bubble. For a major military service to panic due to a new weapon system, clearly a mission kill weapon system, either suggests the threat is legitimate or the leadership of the Navy is legitimately unqualified. There really aren't many gray spaces in evaluating the reaction by the Navy…the data tends to support the legitimacy of the threat." In recent years, China has been expanding its navy to presumably better exert itself in disputed maritime regions. A recent show of strength in early March led to a confrontation with an unarmed U.S. ship in international waters. [link to www.usni.org (secure)] This sounds so familure. They did the same thing back in the 60s with russia. That was all lies too. |

But, a very 'awake' anti-missile operator didn't waste any time at all in firing a Sea Dart missile at the Silkworm before it could get anywhere near the ships. It worked..with only a few seconds to spare!.. followed by an immediate counter attack on the Silkworm missile base in Kuwait.. to prevent any more farting across the sea.. yes.. a very close call.. indeed... |

In all the years of US ballistic missle technological development...do you honestly think the US is still dealing with "missile" technoloy???? In about 60 years...we haven't moved on from this? Use your noggin. Its like thinking that the most advanced US aircraft still use Jet Technology. I have news for...we don't. So people can theorize all they like, but the truth is the technology is said to be around 400 years ahead of what we have in the public sector. This would include "ballistic missiles." |

User ID: 359198 United States 03/31/2009 05:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The US technological edge has moved beyond ALL BALLISTIC MISSLES...HOWEVER THEY MANEUVER. Its a pointless debate. I agree with the above poster that describes carriers as realatively obsolete. Quoting: Hiram 516918Scalar weapons, particle beams that fire from orbit destroying missles on thier platforms....high frequency energy that will annhiliate all unshielded electronic infrastructure and communications--Putting an entire country back in the third world. Lasers that permanently blind the enemy from above. Of course most of the groups that have and test this tech don't even provide it to the US military willy-nilly. Its being kept in the dark....Black....until TSHTF. But I mean it really has to hit it.. It will only be implemented if the very power structure themselves feel imminently threatened. I wouldn't worry about a new missle I would generally agree with this assessment. We have realtime sat assets to detect it off the pad, and high energy weapons that are space based not to mention assets that would fuck up the missiles guidance system. Quoting: WasayoThanx again! it's confirmation of what many have long suspected ~ aircraft carriers are obsolete. thank you to GLP for pinning this. Wasayo Aircraft carriers have been obsolete for 40 years. They're only good for picking on smaller nations. Russia and China do not qualify as a smaller nation. The Navy has known this since at least the 60's. It's hard to explain back home how 4500 sailors sunk to the bottom of the ocean. |

Hiram User ID: 516918 United States 03/31/2009 06:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | 400 years or 40 years... Fair enough. It is really just treading water to discuss it because all of the examples I could give you would seem like science-fiction and you would not believe them anyway. Suffice it it to say...that NO NEW MISSILE, will be any bother to the US unless we collapse from within, which is what is really starting to happen. The overriding point of my response is that it is a silly excercise in thought to think that we are still dealing with: Opponent fires missile from Launch pad. We see launch with sats. We shoot another missile to hit said missle. Said missile dodges left then right at a gazillion miles an hour. Said missile ends up hitting our carrier. This is not the way things work anymore. We are way beyond this sort of exchange and have moved on to methods of never letting the opponent launch a missle, or causing the opponents missle to turn around and hit one of thier own cities. Its really quite easy now. But you won't believe this becuse of the limitations of your vision. |

When the system begins to fall apart, these weapons, these devices, these ticking clocks, and computers that speak and think in non-regional diction.... They will all have to be destroyed or will be used by the mad-men that are hiding them on the few remaining pockets of resistance left. Perhaps some of these devices will sink within the waters only to be covered with the sands of time and to be rediscovered 1 million years in the future by some race of beings that never even knew we existed at all. Sort of poetic no? |

The NSSMS can also be used to detect missile launchings by a surface vessel utilizing the NSSMS surveillance radar capability. The NSSMS consists of a Guided Missile Fire Control System (GMFCS) Mk 91 and a Guided Missile Launching System (GMLS) Mk 29. The GMFCS is a computer-operated fire control system that provides automatic acquisition and tracking of a designated target, generates launcher and missile orders, and in the automatic mode initiates the firing command when the target becomes engageable. Although most of the NSSMS operations are carried out under automatic or semi-automatic conditions, the GMFCS permits operator intervention and override at any time. The GMLS is a rapid-reaction, lightweight launching system that provides on-mount stowage and launch capability of up to eight missiles. The GMLS responds to launcher position commands, missile orders, and control commands issued by GMFCS. The NSSMS employs AIM/RIM-7 Sparrow III series, surface-to-air/surface-to-surface semi-active homing missiles. The RIM-7 version is commonly referred to as SEASPARROW. The missile utilizes the energy reflected from the target and from rear reference RF (transmitted from the director system) for developing missile wing movement orders enabling target intercept. |
