Re: Poker,...
Is it a ring game? If so and you have already set a stop-loss limit than cash out friend. There will always be another game.

Personally, I have moved tables or casinos when I see that more than two players know each other. If you are having fun and it is not hurting you cash wise or you are playing not for money then have fun with the social aspect.
Remember, even pocket rockets (AA) win on the river this often:

Opponents and percentage

1 85.3
2 73.4
3 63.9
4 55.9
5 49.2
6 43.6
7 38.8
8 34.7
9 31.1

BTW, have you started playing the opposite of the table? IF not>>>WHY? Remember, loose table...play tight; tight table play loose. Finally, are you playing position and watching tells and are you keeping emotions out of the game?

Re: Poker,...
Played my monthly tourney tonight...came in maybe 10th of about 40....not too bad..but I haven't found a way to win yet with this group...I can tell you one thing...do not drink much playing poker...lol...I never ever found that it works to advantage...

For Winningjob....

The group I play with is all for fun really...there are a few good players some pretty good...but more that are not good...and that can be a problem...for instance tonight I had been betting a developing hand steadily, open ended straight...everyone except one guy who I didn't really know very well had dropped...the last card was a perfect fit for what was a fairly obvious developing hand...however it was one that didn't work for me...so I am in first position...I have nothing...but a few guys at the table even make some sounds like, well this guy is taost...I bet 4 times what I was up to that point...the guy calls with a total POS hand...some small pair...lol..well....it was good...the table was kinda amazed...the guy just thought it was a good hand...didn't know better, but as it was...he never should have called, yet he won...lol...so how do you play in a situation like this? It seems I have spent more time shaking my head at some of the hands than actualy slaying opponants and getting ahead to the point where I can make even the final 3. I play tight, lose, bluff and buy a few, don't make too mistakes even the ones that we wouldn't consider mistakes like dumping a 72C to a large pre-flop bet and then seeing that it would have flushed and taken the pot, bet heavy when the time was right and capitalized, make good lay downs etc etc...and still....just can't seem to get the big W...so what is something off the menu that a decent poker player can do to win in this situation?

I get together with buddies every second friday for poker, there's usually about 10 of us...but I wouldn't call myself a "poker player" (I only started playing last year)...just a friendly cash game, it's more about the social aspect and "getting a night off" for me.

I read your situation and it sounds like you play in a pretty sound manner. The fact that you are coming in third or at least in the pay range is an excellent sign.

There are two thoughts from what I think many would tell you here. Take bigger risk and/or play more hands early when the blinds are cheap and you can have more option of pot odds paying you off for simply limping in.

The other thing to consider is once you get down toward the bubble..MOST EVERYONE will tighten up and you can take advantage and stab, stab, stab at the pots. No one wants to get take out here and you can use your stack if you have one (even though they will bitch they will more often than not fold unless they see you as some ding dong jackal, lol).

By the time you are down to the top paying spots do not be afraid to take risks as you are already in the money...remember playing tight here is not the same as playing tight in the early rounds while everyone eliminates each other. Now you can raise every time you are going to play a hand (mix it up of course) and find out when your opponent is going to take a stand. More often than not when it is heads up and paint is good and you most likely know that connectors, small pairs and high cards/paint can win.

I hope that helped a little! BTW, I agree about drinking. I always bring money to tip for the "FREE" coffee, and even at home I don't play anything above micro limits if I am drinking.

Same here...I'm new but some of those guys have been playing together for 10-15 years. I don't mind losing the cash though, we have a $20 initial buy-in, and the option to re-buy if you run out of chips, so the leats I can lose is $20. In this day and age, 20 bucks is looking pretty cheap for a night out.

YEAH, not much you can do here..if you are drinking or partaking in other substances expect to play different and make a lot more mistakes...courage in a bottle means that sometimes that 72 off suit looks awesome! Kind like beer goggles in the bar..ouch!

Just remember, there is a reason why live casinos want people that are gaming to drink so they can keep playing ;-)

Drinking and playing poker is like burning money. Until you fix that leak there is no possibility of you winning. Also consider that they may as a group be better than you.

Least we forget the social aspect..thanks! BTW, I always get a kick out of watching the "old" ladies playing here in vegas and how the young hot shots are dumb enough to give money to here, lol! Honestly, though, there is nothing like a card game (friends)or board game (family and friends)to create memories that will last a lifetime!

Yes,...this is what is happening here as well. But there are other games more related to Vegas style play. Which sounds out of this world.

One should practice a sound strategy though too,...It is subtlety like chess.

Okay,...so tonight I was just not fucking lucky. I mean, for 2+ hours I was out of sinc and being professionally scrubbed by these Cleaners.

These guys are subtle but relentless,...ruthless card players, no sympathy. But it is not like even as a big loser you leave there feeling bad. Quite the contrary. You feel good.

These people are still alive and taking risks. I gladly pay for the lessons.

The kicker,...as I got more and more fucked up. My zacksavage persona came to the fore. I became unbound. I started talking orchestrated doom and what has happen in the NOW.

....I started to win.

Maybe that is your focal point...try again when you play and see if that works for you. Some players that I know almost have two or three persons that they become when they play. Think of a soldier...at home they may be dad, brother, son, employee, husband, but in the battlefield they are somewhere else...does that make sense?

I think what you are experiencing is the art of letting go...not easy for many...too many people worry and are bound by the negative and what if. The day when you "play" and can almost detach yourself you may see amazing results.

THINK OF THE OTHERS AT THE TABLE LIKE ENERGY VAMPIRES (as they say on GLP)...you are at war, and can not give them any power!!! BTW, congrats...playing without fear is a thrilling feeling..took me a few years when I started playing to really figure that out.
