User ID: 578473 United States 03/05/2009 06:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | some great books and links... I mined a lot of it, but will have to wait until later tonight to get the rest.... Just went out to the chicken pen to check on my new chicks... they are on food and water and though only 1 day old, seem to be eating and drinking well... I need to go get another heat lamp as it may get a bit cool tonight... Now I need to get started on my chicken tractor as most of these birds are for meat... |

When everything goes to shit I'm probably going to drive my car off a cliff instead of living in the woods in the freezing cold and wiping my ass with a pinecone. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 547819you probably already are a loser and are just getting by, taking and not giving, with no real love for life... good riddance, as it sounds like you are a great waste of air and water.... |

I wish one of my hens would go broody already... I have some 'dummies' in the nest for encouragement and now that the days are getting longer, maybe one will take the hint. Something I am going to try this year is egg sexing. I read in some old tome that a swirled pattern on the shell (pointed end usually) meant a rooster, smooth a hen. Another one said round eggs are hens, longer pointy eggs are roosters... It seems like most of the long pointies have swirls and very few of the rounder eggs do... so the comments may support each other. We know more than we know and understand less than we think. |

When everything goes to shit I'm probably going to drive my car off a cliff instead of living in the woods in the freezing cold and wiping my ass with a pinecone. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 547819You may discover opportunities that will surprise you if you don't get lost in that dismal fog. Historically, rural areas are hit harder on everything but food and only true, experienced backwoodsmen would probably survive a run to the woods. On the bright side, there were many who survived well in the cities. Those folks either saw opportunity and did what they had to do or they had a useful skill. Don't get lost AC, get prepared, mentally and physically. Besides, having knowledge and some confidence in your abilities can only help you no matter what happens. I didn't discover those for a long time for some reason (info overload from the first page kept me in its thrall?). There is TONS of good info on ALL the Recession Proof GLP threads! And a Lot of tasty Doom in the rest of the topics too... Every GLP noob should be pointed that direction after about a week of doomination IMHO.
