I wish one of my hens would go broody already... I have some 'dummies' in the nest for encouragement and now that the days are getting longer, maybe one will take the hint.

Something I am going to try this year is egg sexing. I read in some old tome that a swirled pattern on the shell (pointed end usually) meant a rooster, smooth a hen. Another one said round eggs are hens, longer pointy eggs are roosters... It seems like most of the long pointies have swirls and very few of the rounder eggs do... so the comments may support each other.
