Ok, im pretty sure youve got about a million quesitons about this. But I find something fishy about Nibiru and 2012. It all started off with the Maya Calendar which in fact doesnt end in 2012, it ends in 4770+. People are saying the maya predicted the end of the world in 2012, WHICH THEY DIDNT! Now IT JUST SO HAPPENS that some big planet is going to kill us all in that same exact year and date? What are the odds of that!? I think that is nearly impossible. But i have mixed feelings about this. Im hearing that NASA infact did find Nibiru and is hiding it from the population along with the government. I know NASA and the Gov. is possible of doing such things, they dont want to cause mass hysteria. Doesnt the Norweigan Seed Vault make you curious? I mean it was dubbed the 'doomsday vault' And if Nibiru were to pass within 4 years wouldnt we have seen it by now? For god sake its supposedly 5 times the size of Jupiter. I know I might get an answer that tells me Nibiru is a hoax but how do I know I can believe you? Your obviously not going to say ''Yeah Planet-X is coming in 2012 and were all screwed' what sort of scientific proof can you lead me to? Put yourself in my shoes, im a 16 year old teen, I cant conduct my own studies, you are my only real source of proof. I appreciate your answer. Thanks

You will have to make your own judgment as to who you can believe. While the government does not have a perfect record of telling the truth, it seems to me that the government is a much better source of accurate information than either commercial advertising or the thousands of serve-serving websites and blogs written by non-experts. If you are comparing what I am saying with these Internet sites, just ask yourself about my knowledge and background compared to the authors of these catastrophist and conspiracy websites. And you can apply logic to the supposed planet or brown dwarf -- do you really believe that this could be kept secret? Don't you think the millions of amateur astronomers around the world would have found it? Or that stories would be appearing in newspapers and on TV newscasts? It would be easy for anyone with a telescope to check this out. The new Arctic seed vault has been planned for many years, mostly in response to the current loss of global biodiversity. There are other seed vaults that have existed for decades, but this one has the advantage of natural refrigeration, so the seeds will last longer. One final point: you repeat what so many conspiracy websites claim, that the government doesn't want to cause mass hysteria. I see no evidence of this. Actually, I see some of the opposite: governments sometimes try to increase our level of fear, about terrorists, or example, or claiming that the "other party" will do terrible things if elected. Scaring people is an old technique to gain and retain power. Think about it. And check out my previous posts on this topic.

If you haven't read everything there is to read about Nibiru, it is a planet that is orbiting a dark star somewhere in the Oort Cloud. The dark star is supposed to be a companion to our Sun. Nibiru, having such a strange orbit, is supposed to cross into our Solar System. Many youtuber's and conspiracy theorists say that Nibiru will cross between the Sun and the Earth, disrupting gravitational forces and causing a pole shift on the Earth. It would be great to see some scientific evidence proving that this was impossible by all laws of physics.

I know a little about Nibiru, enough to distinguish the real Babylonian deity from the crazy stuff posted on the web, much of which can be traced to the science fiction books by Zecharia Sitchin such as "The 12th Planet". Nibiru is a minor character in the Babylonian creation poem Enuma Elish as recorded in the library of Assurbanipal, King of Assyria (668-627 BCE). Sumer flourished much earlier, from about the 23rd century to the 17th century BCE. The claims that Nibiru is a planet and was known to the Sumerians are contradicted by scholars (unlike Sitchin) who actually study and translate the written records of ancient Mesopotamia. As to the idea that Nibiru is a planet orbiting a "dark star" that is a companion to the Sun, note that there is no such thing as a dark star. By definition, a star is a self-luminous object. Even more problematic are claims that Nibiru will pass close to the Earth in December 2012. The laws of planetary motion tell us that if an object were to be at the Earth's orbit just four years from now, it would already be inside the orbit of Saturn and hence easily detected by professional and amateur astronomers all over the world. Finally, I sympathize with your request that I disprove the possibility that Nibiru could exist. However, the problem with Nibiru is not that it is excluded by the laws of physics. Rather it is excluded by lack of evidence and the fact that astronomers can't see it. Whether or not it could exist, the fact is that it does not exist.

When most of the planets align in 2012 and planet earth is in the center of the milky way,what will the effects of this be on planet earth? could it cause a pole shift,if so what could we expect.

There is no planet alignment in 2012 or any other time in the next several decades. As to the Earth being in the center of the Milky Way, I don't know what this phrase means, If you are referring to the Milky Way Galaxy, we are rather far toward the edge of this spiral galaxy, some 30,000 light years from the center. Concerning a polar shift, I also don't know what this means. If it means some sudden change in the position of the pole (that is, the rotation axis of the Earth), then that is impossible. There is no point in speculating about the consequences of something that has never happened and never will. Before geologists discovered the role of plate tectonics (about 60 years ago), there was some speculation that a polar shift was involved in transforming the Antarctic, for example, from a warm to a cold climate, but now we know it was the Antarctic continent that moved, not the rotation pole. The bottom line is that there is no possibility of a "polar shift" and no danger associated with one.

Hello, i was just wondering, is the world really going to end in 2012? and also about this asteriod thats going to pass us and maybe come back in 2036 , how much damage do you think it would do if it hit and how much of a chance is there that it will hit?

I can think of no reason why the world would end in 2012. In fact, I can say with assurance that it will not. Our planet, having rolled along fairly peacefully for more than 4 billion years, is hardly in danger of something happening to it 4 years from now! Concerning the asteroid Apophis, the currently estimated probability of impact is 0.005%, and it is not even the most dangerous known asteroid (see [link to neo.jpl.nasa.gov] If it hit it would be capable of taking out a small state in the U.S. or a small country, but the probabilities are too low to worry much about that. Astronomers are keeping an eye on Apophis, however.

Hi, i have a question about the sun alignment in the center of the galaxy in 2012. Will the sun be in the EXACT center of the galaxy? or just lined up/next to the center of the sun. If you can, can you explain this to me. (15 years old) Thank you very much.

I can't explain it because it is just an Internet hoax. There is no alignment with the center of the Galaxy in 2012 or any time. As to the Sun being in the center of the Galaxy, that it impossible; the Sun and solar system will always remain at about 30,000 light years from the galactic center. These stories on the Internet are simply lies, and I am sorry if they have been a problem for you. A lot of the stuff on the Internet is wrong, and you have to learn to distinguish the truth from the lies. One simple test is to ask if any of these claims are made by real scientists, or if they have been reported in newspapers or on TV news. The stories about alignments or disaster striking in 2012 do not pass this test.

why does the Mayan calender say the world will end in 2012?i know you have answered the plant x question....however i have heard that they have been pretty accurate in the past with other planetary stuff ,did they use planets so much to date things? and does that make them better at understanding the solar system? so if they have predicted an end in 2012 will it happen ,how can you be sure you know more than they did?

Calendars exist for keeping track of the passage of time, not for predicting the future. The Mayan astronomers were clever, and they developed a very complex calendar. Ancient calendars are interesting to historians, but of course they cannot match the ability we have today to keep track of time, or the precision of the calendars currently in use. The main point, however, is that calendars, whether contemporary or ancient, cannot predict the future of our planet or warn of any bad things to happen on a specific date such as 2012.
