Quoting: Daughter of zionNO MORE CAGES!! i would let it roam free... When we were kids we moved to SC and saw a monkey in our yard, we thought they grew wild in the state, but soon discovered our neighbors owned it. It was pretty cool to see that thing running through the pines. But that doesn't make much sense. |

Quoting: Omega:boommnky: Maybe if they're in the store, they're just considered "in transit"? It would be kinda interesting to know if there's some equally bizarre, complementary law in a neighboring state, that says you can't buy them, but nothing against owning them. Then it would just be good capitalism, right? Either that, or Montana's got a secret plan to unleash hordes of killer monkeys on us all! ~ ~ "He who does not understand your silence will probably not understand your words." ~Elbert Hubbard |

User ID: 520470 United States 12/26/2008 06:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, I actually looked into this (lol), and it looks like there was a big push around 2004-5 to get all states to ban private ownership of monkeys. Didn't get too far in some places, others seemed to think all monkeys were chimp-sized or gorilla or equally dangerous. (Sorry, I think DoZ could take one of those hand-sized ones!) Your average, Michael Jackson monkey can lift 900lbs with one arm...casually. (Forget weights, I'm going to start swinging from trees!) So they are dangerous, especially when something sets them off. Still, while I'm not a big fan of "pets", it seems a little extreme to me to do a blanket ban. Some smaller monkeys are plentiful, and there are worse pets to have. Oh, and here's a map, probably a little dated, but it might give you a rough idea of ownership. Oddly, it says Montana's fine. Maybe it's a new law, or perhaps that lady just didn't like DoZ? I'm thinking maybe she has young women come in all the time, and doesn't trust them to take good care of them, especially if folks are out to shut down that part of her business. Doesn't take much to end up with a law shutting things down, these days, just the wrong news story. Maybe put on a fake mustache and glasses, coat and hat and try again DoZ!
