2012 preview on earth stood still

So I just saw "The day the Earth stood Still" (Original still way way way better), and my friends and i noticed that every preview has to do with Armageddon and such. Then at the end of the previews, the last preview asks, "If the world was about to end, How would our governments warn you?... They Wouldn't..." Then it shows Himalayan monks running up their monastary stairs to ring a bell just as the ocean rises over the himalayan mountains and wipes them out. Then Ends with "Google search 2012!".

It doesnt state a website or even who put the ad out. The movie itself, "TDTESS" played out
very family film-esque and the theatre ws filled with kids. So my question is, What are your thoughts on this. I immediately thought, maybe fear-mongering. The Scene just made me think and I wanted to know what anyone else thinks.
