Sometimes it's difficult to get good data on how to power a well with photovoltaics. If you have a copy of MS-Excel, I put together an interactive spreadsheet that lets you input data about your well (static depth, flow-rate, drawdown, and whether you will be pumping to an elevated tank or pressure tank), and will give you the amount of power in array Watts needed to get the water out.

You can then figure out what kind of batteries and pump you will need, and, based on the amount of sunlight where you live, you can engineer the most cost-effective approach which will do the job and see you through a few days of overcast weather.
