Will pacemakers survive EMP attack ?
When it comes to heart pacemakers, are they devices designed to have shielding which protects them from EMP ?

Anything with a powersource is vunerable to EMP so no.
Cheers.

Weak hearts are already giving out to EMP's. I don't think pacemakers will handle it any better.

Re: Will pacemakers survive EMP attack ?
Sure, construct a simple Faraday cage. This is a conductive box connected to an earth ground. Or an anti-static bag...you can pick those up at a good electronics supply or online. And they come big enough for lots of stuff like iPods, phones and laptops.

Or you can get a roll of metal tape, and the bags, slice them open and seal them with the tape. This way you could line a big box - like a footlocker - and keep a pile of stuff safe from emp and lightning.

Pacemaker Patients: If I had a pacemaker I would Keep a home difibulator Kit handy and 12 volt solar charger around. Radio shack will carry any connection devices needed if these do not mesh up

Be sure to get a vehicle with a points ignition system, and no mandatory electronic systems.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 490674

yes, pacemakers have no antenna, and are well grounded. However those with pacemakers will not likely survive a post EMP event, as those with pacemakers have very little utility in a post EMP environment.

Re: Will pacemakers survive EMP attack ?
not likely-even without an antennae

EMP will knock out almost all cars and all electronic devices not shielded(Faraday cage) from EMP...all cell phones, any medical or banking records unshielded on magnetic storage devices...lots of hospital equipment...computers....on and on it will go,until much of the current structure is severely compromised...and this will lead to greater instability

If we exclude the hospital equipment+pacemakers, it would be great. 5awoohoo
