Actually, the momentum of spring he equator causes a bulge and this serves as a gyroscopic effect to stabilize the spinning earth. When masses move due to tectonics (and water melt), it will throw the gyro out of balance.

Absolutely, we are just here for the ride. The earth will still be here after we are long gone. However, the sun is not burning out in practical speak, at least not before man is destroyed. The sun is ultra dense and its mass is that of a star. That is why we make a trip around every year, while earth moves incrementally to its final destination.
