Recession Proof GLP ~ The Algae/Fish Survival Cycle
THE ALGAE/FISH SURVIVAL CYCLE

For the Coming Famine

By: Magi

This is not an armchair theory, mazazine article, or internet link. It is a 44-year, ongoing low-tech, bio-tech algae and fish experimental station. The goal was to define the outer limits and parameters of family survival and self-sufficiency… on non-productive land.

Both natural and high-tech state-of-the-art systems have been tested to raise many hundreds of tons of organic catfish ~ without using drugs, antibiotics, or medicine.

Both commercial and natural photosynthesis-grown algae food stocks have been employed in raising fish.

Fish farmers, like chicken farmers and livestock feed yards use antibiotics and various drugs, such as growth hormones, on a daily basis to keep the stock alive and profitable. In the 1960’s, arsenic was used in commercial chicken feed ~ as a growth stimulant. Profits take first chair, while consumers stand up last in the hot Sun.

Calories and filling a starving stomach should not be the primary focus of our survival thesis. Rather, the trace mineral content of a high phytonutrient, antioxidant, organic diet must come first. Sounds expensive, if not high-tech? Quite the contrary.

Home-grown sea salt-fed algae meets all those parameters. Algae work very cheap and cost very little ~ and algae yields 50% protein.

While algae is not a steak, fish and other critters can feed upon it. Furthermore, it can be used as biofuel stock. It contains as much as 17% kerogen-type oil.

Do your homework… check it out. If you google “How to grow algae as a survival food”, you will find 69,900 sites addressing the subject. Googling “Algae as a fuel source” gives 662,000 sites. These should keep you busy for 1,000 years, lol.

If I knew that, I would have waited 44 years to discover all the parameters of algae the easy way ~ from the internet… as you can now..

However, out of the many experiments, ponds, and lakes… one pond of the algae/catfish cycle survived for 44 years on its own natural symbiotic balance.

It has outlasted and out-produced all other experiments for over 4 decades ~ basically untouched by secular or scientific technology. Furthermore, at no time were food, drugs, or fish added to the pond. These critters survived naturally on algae only for 44 years.

Pond size was 75 feet x 100 feet, which appears to be the threshold minimum size for natural balance. We call this survival pond our Freddie-the-freeloader market. We have never found a sick or dead fish in this pond.

The original 3 coy fish we introduced 25 years ago are still swimming around. They are bigger, of course. Bullhead catfish produce like rabbits. The coy also prove that carp can eat algae indefinitely. We probably could have added bass to the mix, as the pond has thousands of mosquito fish and minnows ~ but bass is a sport fish, and may have eaten the experiment.

There were unexpected consequences. As many as 100 rabbits visit the pond daily ~ not to mention all the ducks, coots, geese and coyotes that stop for a bath ~ sometimes a final bath.

So, we went into the algae research business and ended up with a lifetime menu of fur and feathers ~ not to mention fish. We do supply the water. Nature is the partner that does all the rest.

You would be surprised the string of thirsty critters this desert produces. The price is right for a mallard, goose, fish, rabbit, pheasant, dove, squirrel, or rabbit dinner. So far we haven’t had to dip into the algae pool of high protein.

Of course the pond’s fertile exit water can feed many a family…and any vegetable imaginable. Rabbits like veggies too. The algae/fish/veggie cycle works.

Is this scenario really so strange? For the past million years, Homo Sapiens has survived in balance with Nature ~ with no doctors, no drugs, no chemicals, no universities, no sciences, and no pollution ~ no taxes, no landlords, rent, or interest/mortgage payments.

Now that technology has taken over ~ our universe is biting back from the side effects that the Chaos Principles of science have introduced.

In the meantime, there is algae… and its prolific side effects. Choose the system that best fits your needs and pocketbook.

Good stuff!
Is the algae naturally occuring, or did you have to seed it to begin with?

Dear Evil Twin,

Algae spores, like all uni-cellular organisms including the germs that the uninformed fear ~ are carried everywhere by the wind.

Place a bucket of clean water anywhere on this planet, and algae will appear within a week or two. Add a pinch of sea salt and a nitrogen source, and they will proliferate. This includes Anarctica! Add sunshine.

Not only did algae appear in the original virgin lakes, but so did the mosquito fish ~ no doubt as tourists, via ducks.

Nature spreads everything everywhere. Organisms do not strike randomly. What strikes the individual is their immune system goes on strike, having been depraved by our food chain and bad nutrition, in an overloaded or toxic metabolism.

Best wishes to you, Magi

Is this like that one thread on some other forum a few years back where someone looks at their little dingleberry poo in the tub every day?
