CLARINGTON -- After more than 30 years of business, the Fifth Wheel Truck Stop in Bowmanville is closing at the end of the month, putting 58 people out of work.

The local closure is part of a company decision that all Fifth Wheel Truck Stops in Ontario will be closed. Wednesday, Sept. 30 will be the last day for the Bowmanville truck stop, which includes a fuel bar, restaurant, motel and convenience store.

The Clarington Board of Trade reached out to the general manager of the 5th Wheel truck stop to try and help the full- and part-time employees who will be put out of work by the closing. The CBOT posted a statement on social media highlighting the skill set of the staff -- ranging from first-year plumbing apprentice to bookkeeping to line cooks, dishwashers and servers, maintenance staff, department managers, cashiers and motel housekeepers.

The post was quickly shared and reposted. It has reached over 85,000 people.
