I'd love to have some of yours too...

This is my Nanny's Deep South Dressing Recipe. If you add sausage, it is Cajun dressing. I just finely chop the giblets.

Raised our own turkeys and chickens this year - definitely the safest way to go for healthy food. Our own corn too.

Deep South Dressing

1 large skillet of corn bread
1 loaf of regular bread (I use sourdough and/or rye)

4 boiled eggs diced
1 cup turkey or chicken liver and heart finely diced

Sauteed in 1 cup of butter until soft:
2 bunches of green onions diced
1 large regular onion diced
1 red bell pepper diced
1 jalepeno finely diced
4 celery stalks diced
1 cup of parsley diced

2 quarts Mushroom soup
8 eggs
2 cups of milk
3 tsp sage
3 tsp poultry seasoning
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt

Optional: Pieces of turkey or chicken.

Mix everything together. Put into roaster pan or two cake pans. Dimple with fingertips. Pour 1 cup of melted butter over the top. Bake at 400 for 30 minutes.

For mushroom soup, I make this recipe [link to cafedelites.com (secure)] using shitake and baby bella mushrooms. It is SOOO good.

We make our own wine too, and I use 1/2 cup of this cherry wine in the mushroom soup.

Re: Favorite Thanksgiving and Christmas Recipes
One more "must have" every fall is Sweet Potato Pie. The flavor is best if you roast the sweet potatoes in the oven first until soft, and then cool and peel them.

1 Pie Crust, uncooked.

Put in blender:

4 cups of tender, roasted, dark red or orange sweet potatoes
1 1/2 cups of heavy cream
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup light brown sugar
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp salt

Blend until smooth. Pour into prepared crust and bake at 350 for about 45 minutes or until firm and set. Cool and enjoy with whipped cream or ice cream.

North Memphis Biscuits:

28g Cocaine
280mg Baking Soda
1 Jug of Distilled Water
1 Big Ol' Pickle Jar

Mix the dry ingredients inside of your jug.

Add some water, until it is a consistency between liquidy and slurry.

Mix that shit up with your momma's wooden spoon.

Slowly heat over a low flame while swishing your jug, holding the jug by the lid.

You'll know when she's done.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Some folks celebrate different than others, I guess. I still think my Nanny's dressing will get you further down the road. Anybody else got a recipe to share?

Re: Favorite Thanksgiving and Christmas Recipes
This is way way to simple but you should try it.
Easy peasy fluffy creamy mousse pie.
Make/buy what ever crust you like. Regular crust pre-baked or crumb crust.
Whip 2c heavy cream until it holds peak
Add your favorite flavor pudding mix
Fill crust.
Stupid easy truly devine
Cut back 1/4c of heavy cream and it makes a great frosting substitute. Rich, creamy very low in sugar. Add cream cheese for a great richness your diabetic family members will enjoy.

For pumpkin pie follow recipe on can for spices. Use heavy cream whipped with cream cheese instead of canned milk.

As you can see we have a very traditional Thanksgiving.
I slow cook the turkey in the smoker for or 8-10 hours. Devine! It's the only way to eat turkey.

Fresh green bean casserole. Beans fresh from the garden. Mixed with homemade cream mushroom gravy.
Saute mushrooms in butter (bacon grease is better) when tender add milk or half and half with cornstarch or flour mixed in for thickener. Mix gravy with beans, bake. 15 minutes before beans are done add fried onions.

The best deviled eggs.
Boil eggs & peel. Bring water to full rolling boil for 2 minutes. Turn off heat let set for 15min. The eggs cook without over cooking and getting the off colored ring on yolk. Drain, rince with very cold water. This separates the shell. Peel with a spoon. Slightly squeeze the egg slip spoon in. You get a very clean peel and good looking egg.
Cut eggs in half placing yolks in separate bowl.
Mash yolks and mix 1tsp sour cream/mayonnaise (mixed is best) for each full yolk approximately. Mixture should be really thick at this point. Add regular yellow mustard, tbsp or 2 of dill pickle juice. Then add onion powder, garlic powder, dill, salt and pepper to taste.
2 ways to do that part.
1: mix in bowl and spoon into egg white halves.
2: mix ingredients in Ziploc bag.
If you use the bag, cut corner & squeeze into egg whites.
After all eggs are filled garnish with dill weed & smokey paprika. Then garnish with 1 ring of sliced black olive.
It looks fantastic for presentation and tastes great! I've never brought 1 home.

There's some very simple side dishes guaranteed to please if you show up at family dinner.
