A family friend of mine who works in the reinsurance side of commercial insurance said the American economy is going out of business permanently in 6-8 years. The debt ceiling will be $120 TRILLION by 2028 while the GDP will be $58-$60 Trillion.

You can do the math.

Re: This Time Of Year, Annually, Is the Medicare Advantage Signup. Did You know....
A broker came to our house last week. We were wanting to know if any new plans would be better for us. We had an Aetna PPO $0 plan. She brokers for all of the companies in the state. She showed us a different Aetna plan (Aetna Medicare Smart Fit ppo) that was not offered in the 2024 Medicare book mailed to us a month earlier. This plan offers a "medical expense wallet" $200 quarterly for copay, Dr. visits, lab work etc. use it or lose it.

Reduces my cost on a prescription by $15.00 by going generic.

A DMR direct medical reimbursement wallet $1200.00 for all sorts of fees for joining fitness programs, bowling, state park fees etc and even for equipment like tents fishing rods, athletic shoes, hiking poles, and tracking devices. The broker advised us to call and confirm that items would be covered
The broker also said to be sure to recognize when a service was maintenance verses diagnostic, advising us to make every attempt to have it recorded as maintenance **, diagnostic would have charges for us to cover.

Thanks for posting this info. I'm in that situation right now where I have to make a decision. I really don't understand all the lingo and how the processes work, do I qualify? It's frustrating to me, how do I begin the navigation process?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 84880537

I helped my cousin enroll in medicare, I did a lot of research on what all the plan options were and the terminology.

Please take my word for it and check out this website, they have SO much information, if you get their emails they have a free course which will make you the most well-informed person on how medicare works

[link to boomerbenefits.com (secure)]

Everything they offer is free. They will walk you through everything and have a sign up service which is advantageous in this way: later if you have a dispute over what is covered, they will handle negotiations for you.

But being as well informed as possible is a really good idea and I do not think anyone has as good of information as they do, it's impressive, check it out, they have a book too.

They do not push any private companies. As people said above, the Advantage plans might be good for someone with a lot of preexisting conditions, I don't know, but they present every option.
 Quoting: Vision Thing

Scammer, when I hear a foreigner speaking broken English on the other end ..it’s a scam
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 86542165

How do they scam? Did they take something from you? They have endless free information, it's all accurate, I learned so much, it didn't cost a dime and didn't cost my cousin a dime. The girl I talked to on the phone was in Texas, perfect American English.

You could at least learn about the system, you don't have to use their service that signs you up, but they do a lot of the legwork for you if you want to use them. Either way you'd be more well informed if you watched their videos etc. I took their course, bought their book, and watched tons of videos.

They do NOT push you onto an Advantage plan. My cousin did NOT sign up for that.

My elderly mother was paying out to UnitedHealtcare almost $300 a month for more than two decades. When she moved in with me for three years, I went on the website and created an account for her to see what of her hospital expenses they were actually covering and found they don't pay for anything except prescription drug discounts. That's $3600 a year. $72,000 over twenty years. That's what she would have had in a personal account plus interest had she put all that in the personal bank account, and Medicare would have covered ALL of her healthcare costs. I tried for years to talk her out of it. She was brainwashed by my father to believe in insurance. All insurance is a scam! It is responsible for driving up the costs of healthcare.

When my mother had a stroke and entered Hospice care, she was converted back to Full Original Medicare, and yet they were still automatically withdrawing the $300 from her bank account. That tells us when we really have a major medical emergency, our Original Medicare kicks in and pays ALL the costs of healthcare. Since I was now in charge of her healthcare decisions, I canceled the Advantage plan and ended them ripping her off.

Who really pays for this? The money is coming out of our paychecks and/or borrowed and added to the National Debt.

Medicare Advantage is a Scam! Our government is willingly and knowingly allowing American consumers to be scammed! Listen to Ralph Nader!

Medicare would have also probably allowed only $2500, so why would Humana/Advantage pay more. And the hospitals and doctor already know Humana’s rates ahead of time so no negotiation would be involved.
Doctors and hospitals sign contracts with the carriers to participate and agree to accept their rates.

Those who receive BOTH Medicare & Medicare are offered monetary allowances, between $500-3000k by the respective insurance carrier. Essentially for low incomers. These Allowances may offer relief by providing assistance paying for approved everyday essentials such as: groceries, over-the-counter (OTC) products, utilities, rent, transportation, assistive devices, pet care and more.

United Healthcare offers a "Ucard" to regular Medicare beneficiaries, $50 spending in say RiteAid, quarterly. Use it or lose it, doesn't carry over.
 Quoting: Phennommennonn

I have the Ucard-what you say is true-$50 bucks per quarter. With the advantage plan I'm in, I don't pay one dime for anything-unless I go over limits in the dental optical or hearing. All medical is covered 100%, which is $400 a month less then when I was covered by my company plan before I retired. No complaints here!

Advantage can be fine if you're not prone to issues. But some companies will make you jump through hoops to get treated. If you choose a Medicare supplement plan instead, you will pay more but you'll get the best treatment. They can't refuse treatment and you won't jump through hoops.
 Quoting: Skorpio

And you can go anywhere in the country takes Medicare and get the treatment you need.

Includes the best specialty hospitals be it Mayo Clinic, MD Anderson or any first rate facility of which there are many. If in advantage plan you are stuck in their network and will have higher out of pocket for going to specialist outside the network.

Your call.

If it costs more than $0 it might be a good idea to have a broker do a side by side comparison of benefits, copay and deductible. They can put it side by side on their laptop screen. Also, my broker had a new plan that the government issued 2024 Medicare book didn't have listed.

Re: This Time Of Year, Annually, Is the Medicare Advantage Signup. Did You know....
the bottom line if Obama already said...he was ready to let elderly people die rather than consider their spirit or outlook toward life.

Medicare Advantage just lets the Government (which is filled with low IQ halfwits) do nothing. They can't run an insurance system.

Just like Fulton County Georgia's prosecutors had to go out and hire legal help to defend the country against election fraud. The actual Government Attorneys are affirmative action clowns.

So the Government is just off-loading the problem to Insurance Companies, with no concern for costs. The Insurance Companies take the checks and then they worry about managing the costs.

In the end you die. No one gives a crap.

Most Doctors these days are just assholes who had the ability to finance sitting in college until they were 30. You can't trust any of them. They basically go to AI and ask it to tell them what is wrong with you.

This is why I put my home in a trust almost 2 years ago, to protect it from seizure in case I would have to use medicaid in the future. I have all the necessary paperwork filled out, including a Will. Since my oldest daughter is on SSI because of a heart condition, among other issues, she is on medicaid. She didn't have enough quarters in to get regular disability. I got it all taken care of, where she gets to stay in my house after I kick the bucket, but the house will be in her youngest sisters name. I can't leave the house to her, or anything to her, because of medicaid and SSI. If I have any money to leave her, which there is sure none now, SSI will just not give her a penny until the amount left to her would match what her SSI would be for the duration until the money is used up.
For a simple example, if I left her $9,140 SSI would not give her a penny for 10 months.

me too, I don't do Medicaid, but a trust protects.

I know someone who signed up for Medicare Part A only, in 2010.
She was healthy then and thought she could easily handle the doctor fees.
She's now 78 and has had Pneumonia and Congestive Heart Failure in the past year and half, along with additional diagnoses. She decided to add Part B this past year and now they're taking almost $700.00 out of her social security each month! Most likely, she'll be still paying the penalty until the end of her days. Thankfully, her children are helping.

Re: This Time Of Year, Annually, Is the Medicare Advantage Signup. Did You know....
Funny, I used to manage Advantage plans where I used to work. I had no clue how the financial aspect worked. My job was to authorize mental health services. The insurance companies are the gatekeepers and dictate everything the doctors can do. If insurance doesn’t pay for it, the doctors won’t do it.

Coincidently, I am in the mist of filling out a questionnaire sent by Medicare for disability determination. I’m having mixed feelings about turning it in because I know the system is broken and cures suppressed to keep the money flowing in…

But I have worked and paid taxes for 45 years and I need the money to live on. I don’t plan to ever see another doctor or medical professional ever again. They have already done enough damage.

However my responses to the questionnaire are a little conspiracy ish related. Also, I am on no prescribed meds and do not have a doctor- I learned how to take care of myself with great input from GLP.

So, I imagine that choosing to help myself rather than turning to the medical cartel will be counted against me.

I’m applying for disability because my mind and heart are broken since I’ve cured myself of chronic diseases using hidden and suppressed methods. I still have a rod in my leg and a plate in my wrist thanks to “science” and have a constant fear of breaking something else.

Suggestions or pro tips on how best to fill out the forms welcome.

Re: This Time Of Year, Annually, Is the Medicare Advantage Signup. Did You know....
These Medicare companies are the most deceitful in business.

Ask any home bound elderly about telemarketers calling all day long everyday except Sunday mornings.

During the sign up season (September through February) the unrelenting calls come in at a rate of one every two minutes. These evil companies buy or rent multiple entire phone exchanges (9,999 numbers) from Level3 et al in order to bypass the Do Not Call List law. Their call AI software learns quickly which area codes and exchanges triggers a pickup from an elder who mistakes the call for family, friend, or doctor. It carefully crafts a calling schema designed to harass a person into engaging with an Indian call center scammer. Next thing you know your insurance plan got changed and weird medical appliances start showing up at the door (or not, but your plan gets charged anyway).

You answer the call “hello, hello?” Then hear a “bloop” sound as the calling machine transfers the call to an out of country Indian call center scammer.

I changed my answering system message to the reorder announcement “do doo DOO, the number you have called is no longer in service, please check the number…do doo Doo”. I’m hoping the newer call system AI picks up on that error message and automatically removes my number from their list. I had to let everyone I know to ignore the repetitive announcement and wait for the beep to leave their message.

The phone companies are making bank by selling these high volume callers all these numbers to use against us. And then, they make money selling blocking devices to their landline customers. The blockers can usually only block out 5,000 individual numbers. However, my blocker allows blocking entire area codes and exchanges within the area code. I often knock out tens of thousands of useless numbers in one block.

For example, I know there is no legitimate call to me from area code 212.
I simply punch in **7, hear the beep, then punch in 212#, hear the beep.
Viola! No more telemarketers (or anyone else including one of my many, uh, “grandsons” calling for bail or hospital money) from that NY area code!!!

I do the same thing for the all the new Level3 exchanges out of Washington, Herndon, and Crystal City, Va. block the entire NPA-NXX (9,999 numbers each).

For me it’s a part time job as I study the caller ID list and cross reference it against my know good callers list. I wish there was a web page listing known scammers exchanges to reference & save time. I’m sure phone company lawyers would sue such a website into the ground. If everyone shared & blocked the bad guy’s numbers though it probably would not stop them from finding a way to spoof your known good caller’s numbers once it figures out the numbers you respond to. And, with realistic AI voice simulation, it really would sound like my real life grandson calling…pfft! he would just rot in jail or sell an organ to buy himself out of his own mess as I spent his emergency bail money on the vocal blocker machine.

Now most of the unwanted calls are from my own area code & exchange. I can block those individual numbers as needed…calls from the likes of the local charity scams (FOP, DAV, DNC/RNC, etc).

I think the phone company should pay me a rebate on all those blocked numbers and ever single since I’m no longer tying up their equipment receiving superfluous calls. I’m sure their is a way to program a good call receiving list but I’m paying for the entire world to be able to call me…what if it was the readers digest sweepstakes calling?

Obviously someone at Medicare is taking kickbacks on each successful scam as my reporting the bad actors gets no action.
