Retired friend flys for an Airline that flies Multi-million dollar horses and cattle around the world based in Lexington. They go all over the world, and they have vets taking care of the animals from arrival, in flight, and on the ground at the other end. THEY AIN’T CHEAP…. Most people have never heard of them. A few years ago, FedEx and Kalita came up with a container-sized Horse transport that they can fit inside of an airplane along with other cargo, instead of having to charter an entire plane to move animals, say for the Kentucky Derby or the Dubai Stakes. He said it was just a matter of time before some almost minimum wage contract rampy did something stupid, that would cause a horse worth $20-20 million to get hurt. Sad to learn the horse had to be put down. The care taken in transport is extreme. Bought a pony located in Arizona. My Pumpkin entry guy! Shipping to here - many days. Several horse haulers over the time. First driver was my contact person the ENTIRE TIME. the others took photos to show the pony was okay, several times a day. There was a glitch at the very end and it WAS straightened out quickly. On another note, when Snowman, the most celebrated jumper of all times - A PLOW HORSE BOUGHT OFF THE TRUCK TO THE GLUE FACTORY On his trips to Europe, he was lifted by crane and sling onto an ocean liner. Sometimes that involves travel. Horse transportation is also sometimes to a distant vet, if the locals cannot perform the surgery needed. It is a fact of life for them.
