I saw a TV reporter examined the powderised concrete that was held together only by thin strands of steel wire.

One of the most traumatic video clips I have seen is that of a collapsed school, where a very young child's hand was sticking out from the debris still holding a pen.

Shouldn't come as a surprise to see poorly-built Chinese buildings come crashing down. When have the Chinese ever been able to do anything right? The crappy products they ship overseas are proof that they are just plain incompetent.

It is a sad fact that when Communism turn into a partial Capatialism then business becomes very corrupt. They take kick backs and pay backs and money under the table and buy and sell on the black market.

So what you see is another sad result of communism. The builders probably were payed for one type of building but they built a crappy low quality cheap fake.

it is so difficult to look with out having flash backs of the Mexican EQ (Sep.19/1985).... I was a kid..but still remember parts of bodies and flatted buildings... we also lose thousands and thousands of people that day but the goverment only declare 10,000

One of the costliest and deadliest earthquake in the Philippines happened in 1990 with 7.8 Richter scale and 1,600 people died. Lots of building collapsed as well, but not as massive as China has.

Perusing at those photos, I am just wondering if China was really struck by intensity 7.9.
