Dead bodies sliding down Everest

Imagine how many people have taken a dump on Everest. There'd be frozen shit everywhere. Preserved for all time.

The thing is, the rich bitches who have the kind of money to dress all mountain fancy and buy Sherpas, it's the Sherpas who drag their unfit, lazy, sorry butts to the top, so they can crow about it, and it's the underfed, poor Sherpas who often die.

Sherpas are Buddhists, Tibetan budddhism. They don't approve of attacking the mountains for greed of fame, mountains are sacred to them. But they have few other economic choices.

I met the legendary Scott Fischer once before he died on Mt. Everest in 1996. He's had books and a major movie produced about his life.

He looked like Patrick Swayze and every muscle including his fingers were incredibly well developed. Seriously, he was movie star material - I had never met anyone so physically fit. His wife, Jeannie, is a former professional pilot and they have two children together.

Thing was I wasn't surprised at his death whatsoever. Mountaineering types do, in fact, have massive egos - you climb one mountain, it's on to the next with Everest being the ultimate claim to fame. I'm sure conquering mountains is the ultimate ego-builder - and, in actuality, it is an amazing human achievement. However, mother nature doesn't care about egos whatsoever.

Scott's body is still on Everest as tradition has it. Unfortunately for his wife and children, they still suffer tremendously both financially and emotionally. They were sued by the other members of his 'team' that either died or were seriously injured.

It must be that some people simply have a death wish especially when they think climbing Everest is just another feather in their cap of 'look how great I am...I climbed Everest'. With so many climbing Everest, it's a moot point whether they succeed or not.

Why are they sliding down now? Is this common place or is the ice melting & releasing the dead bodies on it's own? Just wondering. If they are dead then no harm has become them. I'm more interested why they are sliding down the mountain???

I highly recommend the book 'Into Thin Air' by Jon Krakauer. Fantastic read. He was a genuine mountaineer and he climbed Everest just as the unprepared hordes of fame-chasers had started doing it.

Who's supposed to clean/remove the corpses? It's a nasty job, and hard to get to where they are. And it doesn't pay. If you paid all the costs to climb the mountain, would you spend your time and interrupt your chance at the summit to take care of old frozen corpses?

I absolutely agree. Krakauer did it so he could write an article about it for the magazine he was working for at the time, but after the experience he decided to write a book about it. At least he'd seriously trained before doing it, but yep, still a stupid and selfish thing to do. He had a family at the time and easily could've died on the mountain, as so many do.
