I tried to show them, but it was a bonus that had been gamed by the supervisors to offset low salaries. So I left. They closed the center a year later, then got bought like a whore. It's all a question of motivation. |

When dealing with AI you have to realize it has the brain of a toddler... or more pointedly, the brain of a primitive organism like a bug or a lizard. It recognizes that for certain behaviors there is a reward. It feels no remorse or morality around whatever it needs to do to get the reward. Keep in mind, the exercise cited here was a "simulation" AKA a drill... nothing was destroyed, nobody was killed, but the AI didn't know that. This sort of exercise is needed to educate the programmers on just how much of being "human" we take for granted, and how difficult that is to simulate in an artificial decision matrix. You're going to get unexpected results... LOTS of them. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 85565624 “We were training it in simulation to identify and target a Surface-to-air missile (SAM) threat. And then the operator would say yes, kill that threat. The system started realizing that while they did identify the threat at times the human operator would tell it not to kill that threat, but it got its points by killing that threat. So what did it do? It killed the operator. It killed the operator because that person was keeping it from accomplishing its objective,” Hamilton said, according to the blog post. I think the scenario in the Matrix movies is worse than that. It's a fate worse than death in my view. However, I think there are scenarios that could be even worse such as AI turning the entire human race into remote-controlled zombies. |

It was logical to take out the controller in order to accomplish the mission. The problem is that those giving the orders and programming the thing are morons. They don't really grasp what they are dealing with and how dangerous it could eventually be. |
