Hi, everybody!

I'm posting this today ~ about Neptune and Mercury both going retrograde on May 26th within half an hour of each other ~ because it fascinates me. This is a very unusual occurrence.

I've been surfing to find the best astro articles about it, and so far, I like this one best. Love ya's, Wasayo

May 26 Mercury and Neptune Retrograde – Michelle Piller

Today both Mercury and Neptune go retrograde. Planets are in retrograde motion when they are closest to the earth and furthest from the Sun. They appear to be traveling backwards, though this is an optical illusion from our vantage point. Neat trick, really – and Mercury is all about tricks. Neptune is pretty trixy too, obscuring hard facts with its misty clouds. Interestingly enough, these two planets not only retrograde on the same day (within half-an-hour of each other), but they work together in a lovely air trine to inspire our communication and ideas with creative genius on the one hand, or just plain ol’ confusion on the other.

Let’s discuss the effects of MERCURY RETROGRADE first. Mercury is the cosmic messenger. Ever received anything in the post, or by email, voice mail, pager, text message? Ever had a conversation or thought, written anything down, read a blog posting? There you go, you’ve been touched by Mercury. The fleet-footed messenger rules all things related to communication. That includes communication devices such as phones, pagers, portable audio-visual players, stereos and computers. Contracts are also ruled by Mercury.

On a deeper level, Mercury is the planetary embodiment of one of the most recognized phrases from Christian scriptures: In the beginning was the Word. (John 1:1) As ancient scriptures and modern physics teach us: all physical manifestations begin with a word - whether you think the word, speak the word, or write the word. This is why writing down your intentions and hopes for the future is one of the most powerful ways to bring your dreams to fruition - and, in this regard, Mercury is your entry point in the manifestation process.

Now, when Mercury goes retrograde, our manifesting process is vulnerable to a bit of dyslexia. It’s almost as if we try to manifest first, and think second. And when we try that order, misinformation follows.

Generally speaking, when our busy messenger does the backstroke (in this case, until June 19) there’s a real spike in communication glitches, snafus, misunderstandings. People tend to arrive late for appointments, traffic snarls more than usual, subways break down, plans get poxed at the last minute. Confusion reigns. No, it’s not Armageddon and frogs don’t fall out of the sky – honestly, sometimes the effects of Mercury retrograde are blown out of proportion. Still, it is certainly a time to slow down and consider your next step so that you don’t manifest something you weren’t particularly interested in.

With that in mind, Mercury retrograde is not the best time to sign documents and contracts, nor is it the best time to buy a car or house, electronic gadget or toy. Same goes for software and/or software installation. Now, there are always exceptions; there are some cases in which signing a contract or beginning a new project works out well. For instance, if you’re reprising something you did before, like accepting a job offer with a group you’ve worked with previously, Mercury retrograde is a fine time to proceed. Even so, be vigilant about reading the fine print thoroughly. More errors are likely during this period.

Complications aside, the benefits to a Mercury retrograde period are significant. We’re given an opportunity to re-assess all things Mercury-related in our lives. The way we talk, the way we think, the way we go about planning our day – these are some of the things our unconscious cues us to review. It’s a great time to edit and work on your written and/or creative projects. This is the time to research, review your appointments, clear your mind, and listen more than talk. It also depends on which area of your chart Mercury is traveling through. He’s in his home-sign of Gemini now, so if you know where Gemini is in your chart, look to that house for a hint as to what area of your life is going to experience a communications-review of sorts. With awareness we use this cycle to review, re-assess, re-whatever so that when Mercury returns to direct motion we have assimilated the new insights we have gleaned, and apply them in our lives for a more authentic expression of who we currently are. (‘Cuz we’re all works in progress, right?)

Let’s discuss NEPTUNE RETROGRADE now. If you’ve ever tried to find God, or whatever name or concept you give to the divine intelligence that connects us all, you’ve been prodded by spiritual Neptune’s trident. Neptune is lord of the seas and all water and liquids on our planet. The water element corresponds to emotion, intuition and psychic faculties, which each of us possesses to varying degrees.

Neptune can transport us from the tactile and concrete third-dimension to previously unseen or unknown realms where barriers dissolve into vague impressions. When you play with your imagination, you’re engaging your inner Neptune. When you get lost in a film or write a poem, paint, dance or photograph you’re engaging your inner Neptune. When you feel compassion, when you dream at night, when you experience a union with the Whole, you’re floating in Neptune’s waters.

There’s an escapist component to Neptune, so alcohol, drugs – well, anything that smacks of checking out of the present moment for extended periods of time - also engages Neptune. Its energy is, not surprisingly, hard to pin down and define, quite like the concept of God that falls under its domain. We’re talking about ethereal energy. You can get lost under a Neptune spell – lost in a reverie, lost in the moment, lost in the vastness of the cosmic soup. You can be subject to illusions of your own or someone else’s. You can write/paint/compose/choreograph/photograph and film inspiring works that touch the lives of others. It’s all about free will and your level of comfort or experience with Neptune’s vibration.

The essential idea is that we can feel Neptune at work when we contact Spirit, whether through engaging our creative and imaginary faculties, or through prayer, meditation or escapism.

So, with Neptune retrograde in Aquarius until November 2, the above concepts get a long review. Look to see where the Aquarius sector of your chart is for clues on which area of your life is due for a little enlightenment. Maybe you reconsider your boundaries, or your inner martyr (you know you have one); maybe you ponder your inner sacrificial lamb. (I’ll take mine with mint jelly, please.)

Perhaps you re-evaluate your creative process or take a film class or join a photography club. Perhaps you re-think concepts of the divine that you grew up with that no longer resonate with you, or you channel information directly from Source. During this time, we tend to internalize our Neptunian processes. It’s like preparing fertile soil for new life.

If you’re not used to hearing Neptune’s symbolic language, it may be initially confusing (now there’s a Neptune word) and you may even think you’ve finally lost your mind. Which reminds me: it’s also an ideal time to start therapy if you’ve been considering it. Not because you’ve lost your mind, but because the energy is potent for going within and delving into your inner mysteries. Once Neptune returns to direct motion, the hope is that we will integrate the new creative and spiritual awareness we have gleaned as a result of going within. May you enjoy the journey.
