This is nothing new. The persecution of Christians started with the first Christians and has continued throughout history right up to today. It's just ramping up now cause Satan knows his time is short. And yes, our perception has been skewed because America was founded on Biblical values and as a result became the worlds greatest superpower. But America is only 247 years old as a nation, and now we have turned our backs to God and are being judged as a direct result. You see, God is Faithful and True, and when a nation turns away from God after knowing the Truth in God, then there is nothing left but judgement. Take the book of Nahum for example, which is about the fall of Ninevah 150 years after they had repented and turned to God. In that short span of 150 years, they went back to all their wickedness, and as a result, God judged them. God is Righteous, and when His people muddy up His name, He rights it. The story parallels America today. Romans 1:21-32 sums us up perfectly.
