People like him because he was actually intelligent, insightful and spoke the harsh truth everyone wants to avoid looking at. He did it with comedy to make it entertaining and positive, but he wasn't wrong and the things he says are just as true today as they were when he was alive. And he wasn't a hateful person, he was pretty well thought of as a nice guy. He just didn't care to tolerate or enable stupidity. Which is pervasive among our society.
