People please please be careful picking up strangers. what just happened to me will forever change my life

I was driving to Okeechobee ( about 2 1/2 hour drive) from Port Saint Lucie FLA To go look at a truck for sale That i found on facebook marketplace.
While driving  I noticed a large tall white male 6/2 6/3 wearing green army fatigues carrying a large green duffel bag .
He was walking with a major limp.If you have ever been to Okeechobee fla you will notice not much in the area but long long empty roads.
I felt bad for the guy and pulled over to ask if he needed a ride. He was heavily bearded and didn't say anything.I found it very odd as he opened the front door and got in. I told him that he could open the rear door and put his big bag in the back seat.
He gave me an awful creepy look and stuffed the bag in between his legs, and he was holding it so tight his hands were shaking .
So I asked him what's in the bag thinking it's all his personal items.He mumbled "none of your damn business". Thinking he's a vet I will let it slide.
Not to be rude but he smelt really bad.I mean the smell was nauseating. Trying not to be rude I rolled down my window and dealt with the smell.
I asked where he was heading and the guy actually said "none of your damn business" and just pointed straight.
I'M a good size man but he started to make me very uncomfortable.
He kept both hands on the bag holding it extremely tight. I asked him if he served in the army.Once again he looked at me with black eyes and said None of your damn business.
Dealing with many vets with issues In the past I didn't bring it up again.Trying to make small talk I asked if he was from the area. ONCE again he said " none of your damn business .I realized the awful smell wasn't him but the big ass green bag between his legs.Roads in the area have no traffic so I just wanted to get to my destination and get this big ass bastard out of my car, so I decided to make some time and speed up.Sure as sh!t we both saw and passed a sheriff parked in the medium and the Sheriff turned around as I was speeding.
The big bastard actually talked and said pull over .Only place I could pull over was a wooded area and all marsh.
I was a bit confused and asked where the hell are you going.
Guess what. The big bastard ONCE again under his breath said none of your damn business.
What was strange is he quickly limped off and he left his bag ass bag behind.
Well Sure as Murphy's Law the sheriff finally caught up to me and hit the blue and red lights.
The Sheriff was nice and asked for licence and registration.He almost passed out from the GOD awful smell.
I told him what happened .He came around and we both gagged AND could not BELIEVE WHAT was inside it will forever change my life.
