but here’s the problem. the cop gets knocked down, someone clearly out of their wits *may* try to grab his gun. does he wait for him to grab the gun to ‘prove’ escalation, or wait till he actually takes the gun (and it’s too late!)

the fact there are massive grey areas in our justice system is really the only problem. laws inherently need to deal with all possible outcomes, hence why it’s extremely important to elect competent lawmakers.

Reality is clear as day. If you attack a cop who did not attack you, you lose the privilege of self defense and should expect to be shot dead immediately as a cop cannot risk becoming disarmed to a SUSPECTED criminal, who could shoot him and others.

Any man made law that does not comport with that conception of justice in this context is certainly unrealistic.

The woman who called this in said that the guy had been yelling for ten minutes. She mentioned that there were customers in the store. So, the guy was behaving erratically if we believe her and idk why she would make that up. She said he said he wanted to turn himself in... Maybe he changed his mind about that.

My Grandparents had a friend who was a retired cop and he said when he was young, cops just expected to fight with drunks and unruly people not in their right mind. He said he often had bruises and cuts from such scuffles. Most of the arrested were not even charged with assault on an officer because it was just considered part of the job.

Pretty sure that was his plan at that moment.
