Body Farm
POLL: Body Farm Opinions
 Great idea!
 Hell no!
I had no idea this was a thing.
 Whatever...

I am considering donating my body to a body farm upon my death. The idea of being preserved with chemicals and sealed into a box creeps me out. I think being out in the open, decaying naturally would be better. Opinions?

They don't take any and all bodies plus you have to pay for cremation just in case. You will have pages of questions to answer in order to be accepted then pay for transport and cremation. They don't just want any body.

Re: Body Farm
I like it, and it would be the best choice for me. My best friend just did a green burial for her father in-law on top of the rim, looking into the valley. With an engraved marker.

Thinking About Having a ‘Green’ Funeral? Here’s What to Know

Nearly 54 percent of Americans are considering a green burial, and 72 percent of cemeteries are reporting an increased demand, according to a survey released earlier this year by the National Funeral Directors Association.

I've been reading the requirements for a few of the body farms here in the USA. I see that I would have to plan for transportation of my body, and there are a variety of reasons for a body to be rejected.

I figure I can save enough money to leave for both eventualities before I die. This is assuming I will have time to plan.

One of my grandparents wanted to donate her body to science, but never completed any paperwork, so she was cremated and buried in the family plot. I want to get my plans in place and on paper sooner than later.

I am not sure about cremation, but it seems better than being stuck in a box. I will have to plan for that possibility.

I was interested in the same thing years ago, then actually lived in a college town that had its own body farm for a forensic class and that's when I found out more details. There are certainly more body farms around now then 3 decades ago.

Re: Body Farm
If one chooses the natural burial option, it can be done without a coffin. But I think it is based on state laws. This is popular in the North West. Not so much the South West, but it's catching on.

I've never understand the whole balming, viewing and six feet under.. thing myself. It's not the way it use to be done. Christ... Just dig a hole and toss me in. My time here is done, and I've left all the carbon print that I care to.

Re: Body Farm
There's a great book called "Stiff" by Mary Roach about what happens to donated bodies.

I like the green cemetery idea. One of my mom friends died a few years ago and we had a wonderful funeral for her out on a hillside, where we ended with a spontaneous round of 'What Should You Do With a Drunken Sailor?' which was her favorite song and then heard what sounded like a 21 gun salute. Everyone was looking at each other wondering what the heck was going on and a ginormous old tree fell into the clearing near us. It was the perfect send off for her.
My youngest is still bff's with her youngest and he hangs out at our house all the time so I still get to see her smile.

Re: Body Farm
The body farm in Virginia or one of those places, I forget where exactly til I search it , but it has become a rainforest over the decades. I think that is so cool. It is so important for humans to be buried in the earth an feed the Mother, but we are denied that as it is against the law.

My perfect death is to at least feed the sharks an throw myself over board on my last cruise on my last breath. I described that to my mother. She said that would be against the law lmfao

Yes, I dealt with that stuff my whole life. Sun

I am in Louisiana. I've always said that I wanted to be swept up in a hurricane and washed out into the Gulf of Mexico. But people get very upset with me when they hear that. My second option would be a body farm or move somewhere that does green burials.

I know. People have no imagination. A great evening it would be talking about the perfect exit. My other one is climbing the top of a mountain with some able bodied skins that then dig my hole and I live til my last breath an well, the rest is easy peasy. Sun

I had no idea, but no, that's not for my deceased body. I will be cremated.

But already so many small fish in the sea.

I want to be fertilizer. Maybe something good would grow out of all

Or a pond might be ok. Some place where lotus or lilies grow....
