I got suckered into reading No Country For Old Men, and then the story about the kid who traps the wolf; now this one.
The Road is the darkest post-apocalyptic novel I have ever read. Hawk is a tempest in a tea-pot, Stevie Q is just skipping rope with the mish-mash he talks about.
If you want to get a grasp on what real doom is about, Ol' Cormac seems to have a two-handed, way choked-up grip on the bat itself.
Probably available at your local library. McCarthy seems to be this generations Steinbeck. What a world, what a world... There is doom in every undercurrent of McCarthy's work. I wonder how many literary critics get the message?
No, Lester is not going to write a review here. The Road is a very swift read. That is fortunate, it just may give you the motivation to store up some more food, gear and clothing. That would be a good thing. |
