Bits get carried off into different layers going different directions at different speeds.
Some of that stuff will drop like rocks while other bits will fall like sheets of cloth or plastic.

I remember once when I was a kid we let a bunch of silver balloons go up outside McDonalds. The next town got completely destroyed, buildings blown up, everyone dead.
I'm surprised we don't hear about this more often.

They are basically saying they don’t want to defend the citizens from a foreign attack for our own safety

Just think if hundreds or thousands of enemy jets attacked us, if they shot them all down the debris field would be massive!! Best to just let them bomb us and play it safe
