Might be able to get one to go straight up carrying a small nuke, let it rip which wont amount to much. That one in Montana loaded with a solar array and electronics, no way. No nuke or gamma cannon on that. If it ever did carry something weighing "tons", getting it up is one thing, driving it around the planet is another. It takes a bunch of rocket fuel to get a good sized nuke in the air, to its target.

I did a comprehensive study years ago. It was something like eight massive nukes going off at the same time "might" drop most of the grid but it needs to be at the same time due to the redundancy of the grid. Remember, the grid really isn't the grid. its multiple grids.

they can weight as little as 69 pounds...some bigger ones 290 lbs...

they dont need a rocket/missle or fuel to fly them mounted on a balloon...

they just need to detonate...

You are probably right. If a nuke gets used, it most likely will be a MUCH larger yield than 1.7 kiloton, which was merely a TEST size.
