Re: Are people going broke?
Are there any forums for people who sell on eBay?
If so, are they saying the same thing re no buyers?

So, disclaimer, I’m one of those people that still makes money selling things on eBay. I’ve been doing it as a *cringe* “side hustle” to make a little extra cash on and off for the last 10 years.

I’ve sold electronics, musical equipment, kitchen equipment, automotive parts, furniture, hand/power tools, basically anything that I think I can flip. Sometimes I make a little, sometimes I make a lot. It really depends on the item.

Now, before I go any further, I realize that less people purchase off of eBay than in years past. I get that. However, more people do than might be expected. That’s more or less why I still sell.

During the start of the pandemic things were going great. I mean, REALLY great. So great, in fact, I converted one of the bedrooms in my home into a tiny warehouse with isle shelving. Within just a few weeks, I emptied the entire room. I repeated this about 4 times in around 5 months. It was pretty cool and amounted to around an extra 1500 per month on average.

Fast forward to the tail end of 2022. I can’t get ANYTHING SOLD. ANYTHING. I’ve literally been sitting on the same items forever. Items that would have flown on the shelves two years ago are collecting dust.

Right now, one of the items I’m trying to sell is a husqvarna 20 inch gas powered chainsaw (new in box). Retail is around 450. I listed it for 325 with free shipping. To me, that seems like a pretty good deal. 6 weeks on line. No buyers.
A few days ago, I get an offer. Fifty dollars.. FIFTY DOLLARS. I was so annoyed, I pulled the listing.

I still get all the views I did but NOBODY is buying ANYTHING. In ten years of doing this, I’ve NEVER seen it this bad. I’m fairly certain that this economy is going to collapse in a few years.

I think the shipping cost is killing online purchases. I can't sell small $5 items and ask almost that much in shipping. It makes no sense to the buyer. I sell on Mercari and DePop it is deader than a doornail.

yes, thats a big problem for online cheap goods, but this is job and survival for local retail shops

I live right off of a major N/S state highway in Florida about 55-60 miles north of Tampa. There is no traffic. There is the usual rush hours where local people are going to and from work, but then the 6 lane road is empty. We are in high tourist season and it seems everyone is staying home.

Its simple:Ebay is more expensive for common items. Speciality items, such as stove control boards and fabric awnings, car air and oil filters, and batteries, and cars...still reasonable compared to Amazon. Ive purchased stuff like that off Ebay recently. Commodity items:forget it. Ebay loses.

Specialize on moderately priced items that do it yourselfers will use and keep it close to Amazon. You'll recover.

Yes. All food items are up 25–100%
Fuel is up. Energy is up. Everything costs way, way more.

The only thing not going up is the wage.

I was looking for a Icon IC7100 radio and only place I saw it and price was just under what a Real Shop would charge for it but then they had the disclaimer on import fees and customs and it my responsibility to find out so I thought F that.
If you are going to sell something just be up front about the fees then you can decide if it worth buying it. Screw Ebay

Ebay thought mimicking Google Adwords was some sort of strategy lol. I'm not paying $10 to "boost" two items I'm selling just to get like 5 views on their outdated crappy platform.

Near 30% inflation for the last 2 years has most people just trying to make ends meet.

It's like losing 30% (or more in some industries) of the money you make, while the greedy government keeps taking their full share.
