The food scarcity also really scared people and now they are prioritizing differently. I too cannot sell anything that I’m pretty much giving away at ridiculously low prices. |

Plus everything is more expensive now as well so things like art and nonneeded items are going by the wayside. Thankfully I own my business but a lot of businesses seem to be cutting the fat due to rising prices. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 74735201 There's your problem OP. No one wants a cheap Chinese chain saw, especially in a 20". I'd be skeered to work it tbh. LOL, Stihl is NOW cheap china crap. They left the profession market and are now going to kill the name. I would go with a Husky over a Stihl anyday. Easier to repair. |

In ten years of doing this, I’ve NEVER seen it this bad. I’m fairly certain that this economy is going to collapse in a few years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51281220 Not sure if decades of transferring basic wealth, including that from manufacturing, from the US to places like China, along with the bullshit of things like FTX/crypto, and the games played by hedge funds and investors like BlackRock have finally gotten way too many of the dominos to fall. But at least most local, state and federal governments, including the section involving the White House, are being overseen by honest, honorable, ethical, non-corrupt, non-greedy, MAGA-loving conservatives-rightwingers. You too, Mitt Romneys of America! . |

I’ve been doing it as a *cringe* “side hustle” to make a little extra cash on and off for the last 10 years. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51281220 I’ve sold electronics, musical equipment, kitchen equipment, automotive parts, furniture, hand/power tools, basically anything that I think I can flip. Sometimes I make a little, sometimes I make a lot. It really depends on the item. Now, before I go any further, I realize that less people purchase off of eBay than in years past. I get that. However, more people do than might be expected. That’s more or less why I still sell. During the start of the pandemic things were going great. I mean, REALLY great. So great, in fact, I converted one of the bedrooms in my home into a tiny warehouse with isle shelving. Within just a few weeks, I emptied the entire room. I repeated this about 4 times in around 5 months. It was pretty cool and amounted to around an extra 1500 per month on average. Fast forward to the tail end of 2022. I can’t get ANYTHING SOLD. ANYTHING. I’ve literally been sitting on the same items forever. Items that would have flown on the shelves two years ago are collecting dust. Right now, one of the items I’m trying to sell is a husqvarna 20 inch gas powered chainsaw (new in box). Retail is around 450. I listed it for 325 with free shipping. To me, that seems like a pretty good deal. 6 weeks on line. No buyers. A few days ago, I get an offer. Fifty dollars.. FIFTY DOLLARS. I was so annoyed, I pulled the listing. I still get all the views I did but NOBODY is buying ANYTHING. In ten years of doing this, I’ve NEVER seen it this bad. I’m fairly certain that this economy is going to collapse in a few |

During the pandemic supply lines were cut off and even Amazon ran out of tons of items so people would go on eBay and wherever to buy. Supply lines are moving along now and Amazon is well stocked and selling things cheaper than before, so you have competition. |

No one wants to do them and the prices have risen and anyone that would take those jobs has moved somewhere else because they cannot afford to live here anymore. Plus didn't big tech just fire 15k people as well? Are they not taking that into count for the job numbers? |

Stores are emptier than they used to be even last year or a few months ago--OK people are ordering a lot online--But why can't I sell my stuff online for dirt cheap anymore. I mean like $5-$50 for really good stuff? Housewares, clothes most new with tickets? I'm going to have to give it all away when I move. :( BTW I'm selling on Facebook MP. Anonymous Coward User ID: 83137146 United States 02/03/2023 07:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've been stocking up on certain things that I like. I'm sure it's different for everyone. Good on shoes with 4 or 5 pair plus backups, kept all my old jeans so when I start losing weight they'll all be there. Anything I'm gonna need for the next 5 to 10 years creature comfort wise I've splurged on already : custom computer 12 core Ryzen, Tv + 2 monitors, headphone system and home stereo system, iPad, 4 or 5 pairs of boots/shoes in new condition, plenty of underwear, socks, shirts, pants (saved all the old jeans as I got fatter so when I start to starve I can go back down through the ranks). Decked out the living room so its like the bridge of a starship, very pleasant living space to cocoon in. Lately been building up pantry with canned goods, maybe 12 or so cases of vegetables to rotate out, 4 or 5 cases of canned meat to rotate out, just bought quantity 2 of 10 pound bags of whey protein isolate chocolate, total storage on whey protein for breakfast drinks is 30 lbs ; got a rack of 30 supplements/vitamins that I am taking on an intermittent basis to see which ones suite me and help my body the most (I'm 58yrs old so that's a thing anyway). I set it up over the last 2 years so that I basically don't NEED anything as far as semi-durable goods, tools, appliances, clothes. I did just buy yesterday a processor upgrade to my computer, it's a Ryzen 7 5800 3DX to replace my Zen2 3900x ... that was an unexpected splurge but the price was right and I can just pop it into the motherboard for an upgrade tomorrow instead of building a new computer. Flashlights, batteries, oh I bought a giegercounter/dosimeter in case they try to pull what they did with cv19 a different way. Basically I'm not expanding my horizons but shoring up what I have, if that makes any sense. I just bought a #10 can of dried eggs/scrambled egg mix to experiment with because eggs are an excellent protein source and I've never minded reconstituted eggs and I've never prepared them or learned how to do so. You see what's happening with fresh egg prices and if this works out I'll buy a few more cans to add to pantry. I don't consider myself a 'prepper' but my lifestyle choices have leaned in that direction just to be smart about the future. Everybody is different but the more I am prepared now the more flexible I can be financially in the future. I've got just a small stack of silver put away and some cash but not much. If you're selling chainsaws on eBay I wouldn't be surprised if you're having difficulty. You might think more in terms of items which foster a sense of security rather than outreach for an individual. |

I sell vintage Baseball and Football cards and concur, sales suck. Usually you can count on Ebay in up times, people have money and buy and Down times people have no money and need to sell chit. I usually sell $1000 a month and this month i didn't sell $50, but I still have my day job....for now... |

There is no traffic. There is the usual rush hours where local people are going to and from work, but then the 6 lane road is empty. We are in high tourist season and it seems everyone is staying home. Mr Samuel Colt |
