What Happened To Google Search?

I guess we are not allowed to talk about that here.

Prior to 2000 the Internet was a mine of information that could be found using any of the search engines. By about 2005 advertising was everywhere. By about 2010 the whole thing had become totally commercialised.

Using Google now just lists main stream newspaper web sites and TV news outlets, or commercial web sites trying to peddle their wares. People are noticing this and retreating to their own little echo chambers of interest.

Youtube still has interesting channels among the absolute piles of dross, but adblockers mean that more and more people are using other funding modes than Google's poorly targeted adsence adverts.

It seems unbelievable that so many companies throw so much money at Google, Facebook, Twitter and the like. The only good thing is that bandwidth and storage gets cheaper and cheaper so small guys can come in.

Yep, like Google, places just drive people away with censorship and crappy content. Fortunately there are enough eyes and ears to point people to better content.

I have old, like-minded friends who I visit very occasionally.

It always surprises and pleases me, that we seem to stay on the same anti-establishment page and see the world the same, so all is never lost.

There are still plenty of hold-outs that are able to keep the stupid dullards at arms length.
