I have all the bells and whistles of city life. I have an espresso machine and a Roomba. But I also have a wood stove and a good supply of wood. Also keep preps of all kinds. A nice stove-top coffee pot and water kettle. I even have heavy work clothes, gloves and hats. Something is coming. We are all gonna die. It is just a question of when and how. I do not fear the being dead part. Thanks to a NDE I know what to expect. The whole idea of preparing for emergencies is to help lessen the mental pain of feeling useless and hopeless. You can help your loved ones endure what is coming without the added tortures of hunger and cold. We will all have the fears and tears that come with knowing the end is near. But having a warm wood stove and a hot cup of soup to hold on to helps you cope. Knowing you did your best to take care of your companions, including your pets, helps prevent the mind-killer...regret. Think about that scared five year old, cold, wrapped in a blanket, looking to you and saying she is hungry. Her death will be slow and painful. You get to watch it. The people waiting to die with me, will not die on an empty stomach. I even have jelly beans and gummy bears. It is not just about you. |

My heat is my gym and both cost me next to nothing. I don't have to listen to your loud cars and leaf blowers but instead watch my chickens and goats goof off. Never have to take my dog to a dog park because my backyard is bigger than your entire neighborhood. I grow much of my own food, which is also almost free. Free shooting range any time I want it. Various trails around the property and a seasonal creek for enjoyment. With my sawmill I can make any building I want for next to nothing. A wood fired spa/sauna is next. But you go enjoy the sauna at your health club with random strangers. If the power goes out permanently, my heat will still work. I'll have a hot dinner and a cup of tea with it. The hand pump on my well will give me all the fresh water I could ever want, anytime I want it. But you just keep believing you've got it so good. Isn't it time to refill your Xanax and get another box of wine? |
