Canadian Government Forces Dairy Farmer to Dump 30,000 Liters of Milk Because He Exceeded His Quota

This is crazy. Yet, prices go up.

Its done to protect them. If they flood the market the price drops, they go out of business. The quota's are there for a reason. The same reason canada doesn't import milk from the u.s, or at least didn't in the past.. maybe now they do I don't know.

There is also quota's on chicken production as well.
That's a different story though.. Grocery stores set a high price on chicken, they get it at probably half the mark up..
Butcher chicken by the box is usually the best buy if you got somewhere to store it.

This is a crime against humanity.

The reason these quota imposed is for the government to gain more power, while prevent better grower/farmer to profit aka growing middle class.

How about turning the excess into formula baby milk and sell overseas? (Job creating, hello?) Anyone familiar with China, Vietnam know that baby formula milk is hot sale there, not just for babies. Teenage, adult prefer using baby formula milk produced in America, Australia, UK... over milk produced domestically.

Socialist artificially marking up food price is always a disaster in the making. Next gas price, transportation and everything inflate, the salary can't keep up with the price. Both the consumers and farmers are poorer as that point, as the value of their labor worth less than their expenses which again controlled by the government.

Divide private, local, family owned production into small unsustainable unit. Forcing you to abandon your own business so you work for government, or the corporate that in bed with the government. That way you can't go independent, and easier to control/dispose.

Just discovered this and I'm disgusted. As someone whose family drinks a lot of milk, this and eggs is a big daily expense.

Bullshit. Not even a month ago there was NO milk or eggs at any of the supermarkets in my area. They want to control the producers, keep them in debt and create fake shortages to keep us freaking out and vulnerable. In any other century, a farmer could sell his product to anyone willing to buy it. Some days I feel like I woke up in the Soviet Union.

Resources in Canada should be free. Global trade agreements are ruining us and this planet.

Of course the Government does this. If they let one farmer exceed their quota, then they have to let every farmer do it and this would have enormous effects on the economy and trade.

So should fishermen and lobsterman also be allowed to keep all the excess fish or lobster they catch beyond their quotas too?

What about the forestry industry quotas? fuck them too.. burn it all down?

Quotas are there for a reason. If a farmer produces 30k liters excess milk, then that is the farmers problem.

Wonder how many "new Canadians" will be set up in the dairy and dairy processing business. They could never make a go of it if they had to compete against farmers like this operating at full strength. But if the government hobbles those who have built farms over generations of inheritance and work and skill, they can create "much needed opportunities" for newcomers.
