She also served as the Atlanta Police Department’s internal affairs commander.

She was fired in 2008 for her alleged involvement in a botched sex crimes investigation into the husband of an Atlanta police sergeant.

Another police employee was also fired and the sergeant, Tonya Crane, resigned before the department decided how to punish her, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported.

Two detectives accused Davis of telling them not to investigate Crane’s husband, Terrill Marion “T.C.” Crane, after the department obtained sexual photos of him with underage girls. A federal grand jury later indicted T.C. Crane on charges of producing child pornography. He pleaded guilty to one count in January 2009.

The federal indictment was issued after Atlanta police took no action in the case, though an investigation by the city later pointed to Davis largely as the reason.

In Atlanta:

As a commander, she led Atlanta’s Special Operations Section, which included SWAT, mounted patrol, motors, APD’s helicopter unit, vice and narcotics. She also led the city’s infamous REDDOG unit, according to her biography on the Memphis police site.

Some info on that Red Dog Unit in Atlanta:

[link to creativeloafing.com (secure)]
The Atlanta Police Department's Red Dog Unit gained notoriety following the unconscionable — and,
according to a federal court ruling, unlawful — raid of the Atlanta Eagle in Midtown.

Now, according to police, three officers who participated in the raid have been put on administrative duty following another instance of alleged misconduct.

Two men have alleged that during a traffic stop, officers with the Red Dog Unit humiliated and groped them whilst searching for illegal drugs. Brian Kidd says he was forced to pull down his pants on the side of the road; his roommate, Shawn Venegas, claims he was cavity searched — all in public and all in broad daylight.

No drugs were found on either of the men.

There is a long interesting story at the link about an officer in the Atlanta Red Dog unit. It looks like these units attract overly zealous officers with mental problems...

May 9, 2008: Major D.A. Williams wrote a memo to Major C.J. Davis of the Office of Professional Standards requesting a “file extension” because “Officer E. Rabb (Red Dog Unit) was arrested by the Clayton County Police Department on an unrelated case and was suspended without pay” as of that day. Rabb was also informed that as of May 09, his status changed from suspended with pay, to suspended without pay.

I’m glad they got their diversity hire for reform. As someone that avoids both cops and blacks, it couldn’t have worked out any better from my perspective.
