I don't think it's only racism - although it is obvious racism. After everyone was given equal rights, it wasn't good enough. Some of the groups decided they wanted more than equal rights - more rights than others. The country is changing because alphabet groups - less than 1% of the population is the squeakiest wheel. Politicians are literally grabbing their ankles to appease these groups. Black people are kicking white people out of libraries, in universities, claiming "safe spaces" and they aren't allowed.

The Barbary slave trade went on for almost 400 years, not ending until the late 1800s.

Millions of Europeans were kidnapped and forced into slavery. Many many died and were treated much more cruelly than the slaves in North America.

This was a huge issue which affected a millions of people, but those currently in charge of our media/education/entertainment industry have very carefully swept that entire episode of history under the rug.

This is possibly because some of their ancestors who got kicked out of Spain during the Spanish Inquisition shortly before 1500 settled in north Africa and helped get that slave trade started. Also they don't want white people to appear as victims in any way, so they blot that stuff out, and they have the power to do that.
